Star Trek The Next Conversation - a comedy Star Trek podcast currently about TV's Deep Space Nine DS9 (or TNG)

The show has been on so long that it’s gotten me out of multiple depressions, a pandemic, and a mid-life crisis . Puts me out every time. Good ol’’ reliable.

An hour and twelve minutes in and they still haven’t touched the Star Trek episode they’re supposed to be covering. Instead, it’s just a parade of listener comments being read on air about their last drop. Who is this for? There’s no analysis, no insight, no actual breakdown of the episode, just filler where the content should be.

..but this one mostly hits the sweet spot for me. I like some irreverence, humor, knowledge and chemistry. These boys do the trick and a perfect “fall asleep at nightly companion. I’m 50, a lifelong Star Wars fan and recently started broadening my horizons to check out Trek and see what I was missing. It turns out quite a bit!

Really interesting insights about Trek. Definitely don’t start listening from the first episode. Also don’t start listening from the most recent. Go back to mid TNG and work forward from there. Once you start to get sucked in, go back to the start. They genuinely had funny and smart insights about the writing, production and world building of the show. Also they are sometimes bad at the technical aspects of the podcast. Definitely not overproduced, but it has a devoted fan community that joins the convo in a fun way. Five Stars.
