    DTVC Extra 57, The Mortal Kombat Movies

    "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at the Mortal Kombat movies. In the first segment, I talk about my history with the games, and how that played into the first two movies in the 1990s. I also get into why I thought the first one worked better than the second. In the second segment I talk about the two 2020s movies, giving my thoughts on them, and why I think they may have a ceiling of $125-150 million in earnings. Then I give my own ideas for how I might make the film series profitable. Finally, in the third segment I talk about my 2022 book "Holtman Arms," giving some background on how I came up with the story and characters, and how the loss of our cat led to the creation of one of the characters in honor of him.     In this episode I'm joined by Freddie Young from Full Moon Reviews as we look at another Dolph DTV film, "Silent Trigger". We start with the first 90 minutes or so looking at the year in movies so far, especially the success of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," but also "The Odyssey," "Obsession," etc., and why we think so many people are going to the theater again.     In this episode Sean Malloy of "I Must Break This Podcast" is back, and we're discussing another Van Damme DTV flick, 2012's "6 Bullets," the second of three films he did with Ernie Barbarash. This was similar to "Assassination Games" where it had aged well compared to the current state of DTV action, and Van Damme turns in a great performance, but it did lack Scott Adkins, which may have allowed "Assassination Games" to come out ahead. With "A Line of Fire," it wasn't horrible, but David AR White as an action lead was tough for us to take.     DTVC Extra 55 "Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 pt 2" and "The Punisher: One Last Kill"

    "DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I look at what I call "Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 pt 2," because I felt like season 2 was just part 2 of season 1. I start with why it took me so long to watch those eight episodes, and then I get into why a lot of it didn't work for me. In the second segment, I look at the one-off "The Punisher: One Last Kill," which I enjoyed a lot more. I also give my ideas for other one-offs, including a team up of Thomas Jane's Punisher and Wesley Snipes's Blade--tell me you wouldn't love that!
