#02 From Musician to Managing a Team of Software Engineers - with Nate Rohweder

In this episode we speak to Nate, the manager of software engineering at Crisis Text Line and my former colleague. Nate’s story is not just inspiring but important for all of you who are doubting that you can get into something as technical as software engineering without a background or education on the topic. Nate started off as an archaeology major and musician in a band. What was at first a passion to grow marketing efforts for his band by learning to build a website became a career in tech that has now led him to manage a team of software engineers. Nate talks about his journey from 0 to 100, and how passion is an incredibly important aspect of growing a career in tech. Nate breaks the stigma of what it looks like to code professionally, because it’s not all about being behind a screen in a dark room. In fact, it’s the opposite. It requires a lot of team effort and human interaction to get things done, especially when you’re doing meaningful work. Come learn from one of the kindest, most interesting people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. The insights are real. Let’s dumb this down.
