Why Don't You Feel Connected to God? (It May Not Be What You Think)

If you’ve ever felt like everyone else connects with God more naturally than you do, you’re not alone. A lot of women genuinely love God, but quietly assume they’re “bad” at devotional life because traditional rhythms don’t seem to fit them naturally. But maybe the problem isn’t that you’re doing relationship with God wrong. Maybe you’ve just been trying to relate to Him the way someone else does. God created people intentionally different. Some women come alive through deep study and curiosity. Others notice Him most through beauty, creativity, nature, journaling, movement, or quiet reflection. And learning how you naturally relate with God can remove so much unnecessary shame from devotional life. In this conversation, we’re talking about spiritual rhythms, personality, seasons, and the freedom that comes when you stop forcing someone else’s formula to fit your life. QUOTE MOMENT “The tools are not the relationship itself.” 📌LINKS + RESOURCES · Figs Community Facebook Group · Instagram · YouTube · Figs Email List · Website 🎶 Original theme music for Beneath The Fig Tree composed by Matthew Lawhon. © Beneath The Fig Tree, 2026. Why Devotional Life Feels So Hard Sometimes

What if devotional life feels hard… not because you’re failing, but because the version you were handed never actually fit you? A lot of women genuinely love God, but quietly carry guilt and frustration because they can’t seem to stay consistent with traditional quiet time routines. Somewhere along the way, what started as an invitation slowly became a formula—and for many of us, the formula became the measurement. Friend, maybe you’re not broken. Maybe relationship with God was always meant to be more relational, more personal, and more woven into your real life than you realized. In today’s conversation, we’re talking about: * why devotional life can feel so heavy sometimes * how shame gets attached to spiritual routines * the difference between “quiet time” and devotional life * why guilt is not grace * how to begin noticing the ways God already meets with you QUOTE MOMENT “Devotional life is not a daily appointment—it’s a direction of the heart.” 📌LINKS + RESOURCES * Join the Figs Community * Watch on YouTube 🩵 CONNECT WITH BENEATH THE FIG TREE • Instagram @BeneathTheFigTree• YouTube @BeneathTheFigTree • Email List• Website 🎶 Original theme music for Beneath The Fig Tree composed by Matthew Lawhon. © Beneath The Fig Tree, 2026. Scripture Writing: A Simple Practice for Slowing Down with God’s Word

Scripture writing is a simple practice that helps slow down the pace of reading and create space to notice more in God’s Word. Writing Scripture by hand invites attention. It allows words, patterns, and connections to surface that can be easy to miss when reading quickly. Rather than rushing toward understanding, Scripture writing offers a way to remain with a passage long enough for it to settle and take root. This teaching explores what Scripture writing is, why it can be such a meaningful practice, and how slowing down with the text can deepen engagement with Scripture over time. Key Takeaways · Scripture writing is the practice of writing Scripture by hand as a way of giving it focused attention · Slowing down helps Scripture sink in more deeply and supports memory and understanding · Writing makes it easier to notice repetition, patterns, and connections within a passage · Scripture writing is not about producing pages, but about staying present with the Word · Simple movements—such as praying, declaring, or returning to certain verses—can deepen engagement when helpful Companion Resources 📄 Free Companion ToolkitA simple, printable companion to support your Bible study and reflection practices throughout the Bootcamp.Toolkit / Resource Hub Psalm 119 Scripture Cultivations JournalA guided journal for slowly exploring Psalm 119 through writing, prayer, and reflection.Journal 🎥 YouTube Walkthrough Videos Prefer to see what this can look like in real time?Watch the separate walkthrough videos that demonstrate how to meditate on Scripture in a simple, grounded way. 119 Bible Bootcamp Playlist Psalm 119 Scripture Cultivations JournalA guided journal for slowly exploring Psalm 119 through writing, prayer, and reflection 🌿 Figs Community Facebook Group Practice engaging Scripture in community, ask questions, and share what you’re noticing along the way.
