In 2010, the University of Chicago Medicine spearheaded the use of the ECHO model in an urban setting with the launch of ECHO-Chicago, the longest-running urban ECHO program in the world. ECHO-Chicago leverages existing assets by bringing together community health centers (CHCs) and academic medical centers for collaborative, curriculum-based, iterative, case-based learning. Using video-conference technology, ECHO-Chicago provides “telementoring” for community-based providers in managing common chronic physical and mental health conditions with the goal of improving healthcare outcomes for underserved populations. These series were developed with Americares and participants came from Free and Charitable Clinics across the country. This third and final episode includes a conversation with Chelsea Stevens, the Executive Director of Heal the City Free Clinic in Amarillo, TX. Chelsea and her clinic team joined both series. In this episode, Chelsea shares her thoughts on the series and reflects on the impact they made on team collaboration. She also shares some of the incredible changes they have made as a result of joining.     Serious Mental Illness: Looking Back & Looking Ahead, Part 2

    Join ECHO-Chicago for our podcast series where we share stories and information from our program! This month, we’re revisiting our Serious Mental Illness ECHO series since we just wrapped up our 7th cohort and the large grant-funded project that allowed us to run our first 6 cohorts. It’s been an incredibly popular series and a very needed one, given the dearth of mental health care and psychiatry available, especially in safety-net healthcare settings. We’re excited to share more about the impact of this series and the work and care that went in to its design and delivery. In Serious Mental Illness: Looking Back & Looking Ahead, Part 2 we speak with several of the other amazing individuals who made this series so successful: Dr. Barrett Kern, a clinical psychologist and community advisory board liaison for the series; Karen, a member of our advisory board and our caregiver voice representative for the series; and Dr. Michael Quinn, our lead data and evaluation expert for the project!
