Elba Intriago | Latinas in Advertising and the Gender Pay Gap

This year, Latina Equal Pay Day was on October 5th. According to the most recent data, Latinas, despite being one of the fastest growing and most educated groups in the country, make $0.52 to the dollar in comparison to their white, male counterparts. Furthermore, a new analysis conducted by the National Women’s Law Center found that Latinas stand to lose more than $1.2 million over a 40-year career due to the wage gap and for those with a professional degree, the gap widens to $2.5 million over their career. In this discussion, we’ll talk to Elba Intriago, VP at Walton Isaacson and Latina leader with decades of experience in the advertising industry. We’ll dig deep into some of the nuances associated with the gender pay gap for Latinas and women across the board. Here is an overview of some high-level topics of discussion to expect: 👉 The importance of the Latina perspective in advertising 👉 Reasons why the Latina pay gap is getting worse 👉 Cultural beliefs on education and career growth 👉 The gender pay gap for women in advertising At El Brightside, we lean into the tensions and complexities of different cultural topics and perspectives. We are fueled by the joys of culture and look forward to shining light on incredible Hispanic leaders through human-centric, culturally fluent dialogue. Sandra Velasquez (NOPALERA) | How to Use the Value of Culture to Build a Brand with Bold Intention.

Mexican culture is beloved around the globe and will always be embedded into the fabric of American life. Its energy is ever-present in almost every corner of our country and radiates through the people who proudly have Mexican blood running through their veins. Mexican energy is what fueled Sandra Velasquez to create Nopalera, a Mexican botanical bath and body collection powered by the Mexican nopal cactus, one of the most nourishing plants in the world. Nopalera challenges the narrative around the value of Latino goods in the beauty industry and aims to reposition them in premium spaces where they belong but are nearly non-existent. This intentionally bold approach is driven by the belief that Mexican culture and heritage is worthy of luxury, honor and loyalty. At El Brightside, we are fueled by the joys of culture and it is an honor to have the opportunity to interview an emprendedora whose brand mission goes beyond beauty, it also elevates and champions Mexican heritage and the value it offers anyone receptive to its gifts across the world. Please join us as we kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month with “A Multicultural Discussion” about embodying the boldness of culture, challenging the status quo, building a business with intention, standing in your worth and always remaining resilient. HHM Series (Part 2) | Of the People, For the People

This is part 2 of our Hispanic Heritage Month Series that takes us through A Tequila Journey.  In this episode, Jonathan interviews two of the four founders of Tequila de la Gente, a tequila brand that blossomed from the 2020 pandemic and is founded on love for tequila, the Mexican craftsmanship of its production and the desire to connect with people during a time when we wanted it most. Tequila de la Gente is the first crowdsourced tequila brand in the marketplace and the things discussed during this episode with Albert Zubia and Daniel Vasquez have everything to do with grit, entrepreneurship, business funding and culture - among some sprinkled laughs and also more in-depth explanations about what being a crowdsourced tequila means and how bringing people (la gente) into their business venture has been fulfilling and intentional.  Albert Zubia is a Mechanical Engineer by trade and proud Red Raider, Texas Tech alumni. Throughout his career, he has traveled nationally and internationally working for different energy, oil and gas enterprises before embarking on the journey of becoming an entrepreneur and launching his own companies within the oil and gas industry himself. He has dabbled in different projects and has upheld the essence of his Mexican heritage through his dedication to community, hard work, family and passion for the things he dedicates his time, money and energy to. As a founder of Tequila de la Gente, his focus is on creating a premium product that cuts out all the hype and focuses on the Mexican craftsmanship of tequila making along with allowing “la gente” to become part of their brand by having them choose the best tasting tequila. Daniel Vasquez is a technology aficionado and software developer who received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Texas Tech University. He is an entrepreneur by heart who has founded various ventures, including a software company dedicated to helping people turn ideas into products via-software and product development.
