Episode 87: Liz Allan and Adam Thurman - The Electric Vehicle Repair Revolution

Episode 87: Liz Allan and Adam Thurman - The Electric Vehicle Repair Revolution.
Liz Allan speaks to Adam Thurman, Managing Director of EV Bodyshops, the trailblazing founder of EV Body Shops - the UK's first body shop dedicated to repairing electric vehicles and a hub for innovation in electric vehicle care. They discuss the intricate web of supply chains,  adaptability in the electric vehicle industry, customer satisfaction, and what it takes to create a seamless EV experience. They also delve into practical matters, including the truth behind parts availability and industry fears around repairing EVs and celebrate the importance of building strong, trust-based relationships with customers.

    Adam Thurman Bio:
Adam Thurman's career trajectory took a significant turn after he left his initial business to work with various automotive dealer groups. His relationship with a former after-sales director remained strong, and their regular discussions revealed a niche opportunity emerging within the automotive industry. Recognising the rapid rise of electric vehicles and the unpreparedness of body shops to handle the specialised needs of these cars, Adam seized the moment to innovate. Two and a half years ago, amidst the challenges of a post-lockdown world, Adam founded his venture with a flagship site in Enfield, marking the beginning of an ambitious journey. Through dedication and foresight, his business became the UK's first dedicated electric vehicle repair centre, setting a new standard in the industry and sparking a trajectory of growth that would redefine electric vehicle servicing in the region.

Episode 86: Liz Allan and Graeme Warnell - Mitigating Risks and Charging Towards a Cleaner Future

Episode 86: Liz Allan and Graeme Warnell - Mitigating Risks and Charging Towards a Cleaner Future

Episode 86: Liz Allan and Graeme Warnell -  Mitigating Risks and Charging Towards a Cleaner Future.
Liz Allan speaks to Graeme Warnell, Director at EV-Ex-Box, about the intricacies,  potential hazards and mitigation of EV charging risks. Graeme shares his expertise on the crucial need for proper risk assessment and safety mechanisms in installing EV chargers, which could pose fire risks, contamination, and public danger.
Liz and Graeme explore complex issues, from the proximity of EV chargers to flammable materials to the precautions necessary for thermal runaway. Graeme provides insights into the importance of education, awareness, and the active involvement of both local authorities and emergency services to mitigate these emerging threats.

    Graeme Warnell Bio:
Graeme Warnell's career is a testament to his extensive experience and bold personal evolution within the energy sector. His professional journey is rich and varied; he worked for 24 years at British Petroleum (BP). His expertise stretches across a spectrum of critical areas, from maintenance, design, and construction to safety and risk management at petrol filling stations in the UK, Europe, South Africa, and Mozambique. However, a profound ethical awakening led Graeme to reassess his role within the oil industry. In a courageous move, he turned away from his most lucrative position, propelled by a moral imperative to disassociate from the industry on a deep level. Embracing this new direction, he established his consultancy with a clear mission: to guide organisations toward enhanced safety practices and towards a greater commitment to environmental protection and holistic design and management of systems.

Episode 84: Liz Allan and Harrison Hughes - Plugging into progress with the EV Rally; London to Brighton and Beyond

Episode 84: Liz Allan and Harrison Hughes - Plugging into progress with the EV Rally; London to Brighton and Beyond

Episode 84: Liz Allan and Harrison Hughes -Plugging into progress with the EV Rally; London to Brighton and Beyond.

Liz Allan speaks to Harrison Hughes, Co-Founder of Current PR Limited and the London to Brighton Electric Vehicle Rally event organiser. Harrison is an advocate for fun and sustainability in the world of electric mobility. They discuss Harrison's journey from managing COVID testing to moving into electric mobility and managing the London to Brighton EV Rally. He speaks about all the quirky converted classics that join the rally, like the electric Morris miner and the efficiency-tracked journey from London to Paris. This year, it's also going to Geneva.

    Harrison Hughes Bio:
Harrison Hughes, co-founder and innovative mind behind the London to Brighton Electric Vehicle Rally, was a visionary far ahead of the mainstream shift to electric vehicles. His journey began not as the frontman, but as the ally to Bill Murray, his astute business partner, and their acquaintance, Tom Druid, the trailblazing owner of Brighton's foremost electric bus company. This trio's curiosity about the capabilities of Druid's new fleet of electric buses sparked the conception of a real-world test— to measure their distance viability and efficiency on a single charge. Hughes's eye for opportunity and Bill's creative outreach transformed a technical trial into an inclusive event. The event retraced the historic avenue of many past rallies but with a modern, electrified twist, setting a precedent for an annual celebration of renewable energy in transportation. From London to Brighton, the rally quickly expanded, gaining international traction with routes extending as far afield as Paris and next to Geneva.
