Knowing how to get organized doesn’t always mean you can actually do it, especially when you’re overwhelmed or your brain doesn’t naturally work with the systems you’ve been given. In this episode of Energy + Hours, I’m joined by organizing coach Tracy Hoth to talk about the practical and mental sides of getting organized. Tracy is a certified life and organizing coach and host of the top 1% globally ranked Organized Coach Podcast. One of my favorite parts of this conversation is Tracy’s definition of being organized: knowing what you have and being able to find it when you need it. We talk about why someone can be incredibly organized at work and struggle at home, how labels like “I’m a messy person” can stick with us, and why ADHD and neurodiverse brains may need different organizing tools and structures. Tracy also shares her SPACE organizing method: Sort, Purge, Assign Homes, Contain, Energize. She uses the same process for physical clutter, time, projects, digital spaces, and even the thoughts taking up space in her brain. We also get into the connection between clutter, mental load, and energy. Unfinished tasks, paperwork, clutter, and all those things you keep meaning to deal with can continue taking up capacity even when you aren’t actively working on them. In this episode, we talk about: What it actually means to be organized How the identity of being “messy” can affect your habits Organizing systems for ADHD and neurodiverse brains Using timers, deadlines, accountability, and scheduling Tracy’s 15-minute approach to decluttering Why habits don’t need to happen every day to count Resuming a routine without treating it as starting over Tracy’s SPACE method for decluttering and organizing How physical clutter adds to mental load and drains energy Applying organizing principles to your calendar and weekly planning Using digital calendars and paper planners together The “wonderful one” strategy for reducing decision fatigue About Tracy Hoth: Tracy Hoth is a certified life and organizing coach helping women simplify their homes, lives, and businesses through practical systems and mindset shifts, so they can focus on what matters most.
