As the legal industry responds to the climate crisis, the ‘Environmental Justice’ podcast assists law students in making sense of the ethical complexities and unspoken challenges of defending the environment and its risk to humanity. This short series, is hosted by a group of law students who hope to share Australian legal perceptions on climate justice issues.

    Environmental Justice Podcast Episode 3 - Monash Climate Clinic

    Hubert Algie is a senior associate at Norton Rose Fullbright Australia at the Planning and Environment law team. He has previously chaired the environmental issues committee of the Law Institute of Victoria. He is also a sessional tutor at Melbourne University and a Clinic Supervisor for the Monash Climate Justice Clinic. Malvina Hagedorn is a special counsel at Russell Kennedy's Pro Bono practise. She is a public interest lawyer with over 13 years of experience specialising in Refugee, Immigration and Citizenship Law. In this podcast, we explore their various career trajectories, their views on contemporary climate issues and insights for individuals aspiring to venture into practising environmental law.

    Environmental Justice Podcast Episode 2 - Tiphanie Acreman

    Tiphanie Acreman is a barrister at the Victorian Bar practicing in property, land use and environmental law. She has worked at the Federal Department of the Environment where she was involved in the development of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (Cth) and is now on the Board of Directors of the National Environmental Law Association Ltd, the peak body for advancing Australian environmental law and policy. In this podcast, we explore her journey practising in the field of environmental law and how the public sector intersects this area of law.

    Environmental Justice Podcast Episode 1 - Gerry Nagtzaam

    Gerry Nagtzaam Ba, LLB, M Env Sci, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at Monash University. His research focuses on the intersections between environmental law, politics, history and economics. He has written numerous articles and book chapters on international environmental treaties focusing on biodiversity loss, climate negotiations and plastic pollution regulation.  He has also published a number of well received books on topics including international environmental treaties and their normative treatment; nuclear waste disposal in democratic states; on the phenomenon of ecoterrorism; global plastic pollution regulation and forthcoming books on climate justice and the International Whaling Commission. In this podcast, we explore his journey in research and academia, his work in the environmental law sector and areas of the environmental law he is passionate in.
