EP 56: High Risk, Higher Reward? A Game Within a Game〡Guys Being Doods Podcast

On today's episode we discuss everything that has taken place this weekend, from wrapping up our Logo Design Contest to a whole weekend of All-Star Caliber baseball! After HUNDREDS of votes, our new design has been chosen by YOU! And we LOVE IT! Thank you to everyone that participated, either by voting or submitting a design. We couldn't have done it without YOU! With the 2022 All-Star Game coming to you live from Dodgers Stadium, it's not surprising that some of entertainment's best are coming out to play. Bryan Cranston, Bad Bunny, Rob Lowe, and Jerry Lorenzen are just four of this year's star-studded celebrity softball game players. Team Brooklyn takes the victory. Moving on, the 2022 MLB Draft drew to a close on Tuesday after three days, 20 rounds, and 616 picks. The action all started on Sunday, when the Baltimore Orioles selected Jackson Holliday, Matt's son and an Oklahoma prep shortstop, with the No. 1 pick. The draft has since featured its trademark number of shockers, including when the Texas Rangers chose former Vanderbilt right-hander Kumar Rocker with the No. 3 pick, throwing boards into disarray. It's going to be an interesting journey to see how this year's drafties all pan out! The 2022 MLB Home Run Derby is set to take place, and Luke goes to witness his FIRST EVER Home Run Derby! Hear all about the full experience here! But if not, Juan Soto is your 2022 Home Run Derby champion after dueling it out with rookie Julio Rodriguez in a battle of the young bats. Juan Soto, just 23 years old, became the second youngest player ever to win the Derby. He is the second Washington Nationals player to win the event (Bryce Harper won in 2018) and the first Dominican-born champion since Robinson Cano (2011) and, of course, last but not least, the MLB All-Star Game, where everyone sits and watches to see if the National League will FINALLY pull off a win... That question will remain unanswered until next year...

EP 54: Nueralink: Coming Quicker Than We Think?

On today's episode (previously recorded), we catch up to give our thoughts and opinions on the upcoming 2022 MLB all-star game, which, if you haven’t heard, is in our backyard of LA. The big question is, which team will fall come all-star break, who will get red hot? There are so many things to look forward to in the next few weeks in the world of baseball but as we move forward, we start talking about human advancements and how Elon Musk's newest project, the Nueralink, is coming sooner than we think. Some of you may be asking, What is the Neuralink? The Neurallink's goal is to build something called a "brain computer interface" that allows people to transmit and receive information between their brain and a computer wirelessly. CRAZY RIGHT!? And before we head on out, we had to mention the Fresno State Bulldogs, who are just under 60 days until kickoff! The Bulldogs have plenty of reasons to believe they’ll be serious Mountain West football contenders next fall, but the program’s ceiling might be higher than simply a conference title if things break their way during what looks like a typically rigorous September. With Jake Haener, Jalen Cropper, David Perales and more back for 2022, the ‘Dogs are among the most experienced teams anywhere in the conference. It might seem that there isn’t a lot of room for new contributors to break out, then, but you’d be mistaken. Because depth figures to be one of this team’s biggest strengths, these players are decent bets to make major waves next season.

The Ole Miss Rebels Win Their FIRST EVER College World Series Title: AMAZING STORY!

What's up guys and WELCOME BACK!  In today's episode, we look back at the final few weeks of the 2022 college baseball season. Throughout the league, history was made! But one team, Ole Miss, had a fairytale ending; a team full of leaders who overcame a rocky start to the season to become one of the best in college baseball. After all the heartbreaks and close losses, this is the team that finally brings a trophy back to Oxford, Mississippi, and KEEPS it in the state of Mississippi! This Ole Miss baseball team won a national championship. The 2022 Rebels defeated Oklahoma 4-2 in comeback fashion Sunday, scoring three runs in the eighth inning to bring home the first NCAA men's sports championship in school history. This team fell from the No. 1 spot early in SEC play and was in jeopardy of missing the conference tournament on May 1. This team benched all of its starting pitchers in April and had to rely on a junior college transfer and a freshman to save its season. This team, that lost four straight series in April; lost their cleanup hitter Kevin Graham for a month to a wrist injury; lost sophomore Calvin Harris to an oblique injury when he was batting .524; and lost transfer portal pitchers Jack Washburn and John Gaddis to an ankle injury and an appendectomy in April. The team that received the last bid in the NCAA Tournament is the last team standing. Champions of the world! Congratulations, Ole Miss! The Rebels finished the season 42-23, winning 10 of 11 games during a magical run through the postseason. It is the first baseball national championship in program history. Moving along, we get into a deep conversation about the college baseball culture and what the fans mean to the game.. No one supports their college baseball teams like fans from Mississippi, and that leaves us with one question: Is Mississippi the best overall college baseball state? Obviously, it takes more than fan support to win national titles. That's where the teams come in. And that's why Mississippi isn't just on top of the college baseball world today, but is poised to stay there for quite a while. Lastly, some late-breaking news Wes Johnson, the pitching coach of the Minnesota Twins, has been hired as the new pitching coach at LSU. Wes Johnson will begin his tenure at LSU later this week after coaching the Twins in their five-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. Johnson will be making his return to the college ranks and, specifically, to the Southeastern Conference after serving as the Twins' pitching coach since 2019. Prior to joining the Twins, he had filled coaching roles with both the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Arkansas Razorbacks...How do we feel about this?  And before we head out, we just want to remind you that our Logo Design Contest is going on NOW! And there are just two weeks left to enter! That’s right guys, just two weeks left until July 12th, episode 56. All you have to do is get creative and submit the design to the email below. After all of the designs are submitted, they will then be placed into an Instagram and Twitter poll where YOU, yes, you will get to choose our next logo for The Guys Being Doods Podcast. We hope you all enjoy another GREAT day and we will see you next Tuesday!
