Taste and Seek

Linnea Smith

Can we truly taste and see God's goodness in our lives, or is it an empty invitation that leaves us longing and wanting more? Does God care about the mundane moments? Is he there in the waiting room? In our conversations, we will be diving into various topics with guests who will help us see God and his activity. We will be covering a wide spectrum of our lives' experiences ranging from parenting, mental health, loss, and our vocations. As a teacher, a mom, a wife, a workshop leader, my passion is to encourage you to seek God throughout your days and then equip those around you.

Ep. 34 How Do We End Well: 4 Thoughts to Prepare for Family Gatherings

Synopsis: In this pre-Thanksgiving episode, we talk about what it means to end well in light of the holidays—with our families, our friendships, and the people we love most. We will talk about choosing grace, releasing expectations, and asking Jesus to help us end well. When family feels complicated and gatherings feel fragile, may this episode offer warmth, wisdom, and hope. In this episode you will hear: Ending well begins with the Holy Spirit’s guidance. We can’t control other people’s actions or reactions, but we can invite the Holy Spirit to shape our own responses, soften our hearts, and lead us toward peace—even when it’s painful. Adjusting expectations brings freedom and gentleness. Many relational tensions come from unrealistic or unspoken expectations. Accepting loved ones as they are (not as we wish they were) creates room for peace, compassion, and healthier connection. Honest reflection helps us take ownership of our part. Rather than focusing on who’s “most at fault,” we’re invited to look at the log in our own eye. Humility and self-awareness help us contribute to healing instead of fueling hurt. Relationships are strengthened through intentional memories. Shared meals, simple traditions, kindness, and joy-filled moments become “deposits” in our relational accounts—especially in seasons where things feel fragile or tense. Grief, boundaries, and acceptance are part of loving well. Some relationships won’t be what we hope, and that loss needs to be acknowledged. Yet even in disappointment, we can choose grace, prayer, and a posture of hope—trusting that Jesus can redeem what we cannot fix. Ep. 33 No Matter Where I Go: A Foster Care Story of Hope with Author Jessica Mathisen

Synopsis: This week, we’re sitting down with author Jessica Mathisen to talk about her beautiful new picture book, No Matter Where I Go — a story that reminds children (and grown-ups, too) that God never leaves us. Through gentle words and heartfelt storytelling, Jessica shares how her faith, family, and love for kids shape her writing and her message of unconditional love. Jessica always had a heart caring for children and when infertility led her and her husband to foster care, they followed the Lord's leading. She is a wife, speaker, podcaster, and author as well as a foster, bio, and adoptive mama. This year, she launched her new children's picture book, No Matter Where I Go, a story written from the perspective of a little girl in foster care. Her desire was for other kids in care to feel seen and encouraged that no matter where they go, God knows exactly where they are. Her book is not only for kids in care, but for everyone! It is a gentle way to teach all children about a different reality for so many around us. In this episode you will hear: A Family’s Journey into Foster CareJessica shares how she and her husband first felt called into the world of foster care, what that journey has taught them, and how it’s changed their understanding of love and family. The Story Behind the StorybookDiscover how No Matter Where I Go was born — the inspiration, the heart, and the message that grew from Jessica’s real-life experiences of caring for children who need a safe place to land. Trusting God with Every OutcomeJessica offers gentle encouragement for parents and caregivers to release control and trust God’s plan — even when the path is uncertain or the story doesn’t unfold as expected. The Power of CommunityLearn why none of us are meant to walk this road alone, and how strong, supportive communities make all the difference for families involved in foster care. A Call to CompassionJessica challenges us to open our hearts and hands — reminding us that everyone has a part to play in the foster care story, whether by fostering, supporting, or simply showing up in love. Ep. 32- At the Table: Where Feasts Foster Hope

Synopsis: At her church's women's event, Linnea had the privilege to share about the hope we find in feasting together. Why does a feast matter? While sharing her story of loss, Linnea shares how God uses feasts to instill in us hope. With the holidays upon us, this is a timely word to encourage those who are walking into the season with heartache.
