Greg Fleming on Mentorship: From Cabrini to Coaching

Greg Fleming on Mentorship: From Cabrini to Coaching

This one will fascinate you as it did us.  Who do you mentor ... who are you mentored by?  One thing is absolutely certain as we go through tonight's discussion:  to have a great mentorship relationship you need great mutual accountability.

    Meet Greg Fleming.

Tonight we dive into mentorship and focus on the Mentorship between two fascinating individuals, Deepak Devaraj (episode 3 - space for authenticity) and Greg Fleming.

The following links will best describe who these two guys are and how they came to know each other.  In brief, Greg was a child raised in the notorious Chicago Housing Association projects called Cabrini-Green, mostly known for its drugs, gangs, and violent crime.  Rather than succumb to this environment, and despite losing a brother to gang violence, Greg overcame this in great part due to his wisdom and the mentorship established between him and Deepak when Greg was only in the 4th grade.

Tune in to a harrowing tale of success despite all the chips being stacked against him, and Greg's story will illuminate you.  As he says, you need a "why?" so big in life that it overcomes any "how?"

People Fire Themselves - with Jim Arthur

People Fire Themselves - with Jim Arthur

Please welcome our friend and guest Jim Arthur.  Jim comes to us fresh off our Grand Canyon trip, he hiked the RIM 2 RIM trail several times including the grueling 46 mile, 18 hour, RIM to RIM to RIM hike!

Jim is a leader in customer service of a southern US based corporation and he has spent years learning and cultivating leadership on the job.  He taught us first pearls of success in hiking the Grand Canyon then he shared with us his amazing perspectives on work place leadership and leadership all around.

Tonight we ponder accountability and leadership from both sides of the equation: employer and employee.  He teaches us about the pneumonic C.O.R.E.:

    C - Communication
    O - Own It
    R - Respect
    E - Educate

"People fire themselves" is not Jim's own or a novel concept, nevertheless his personal and professional reflection on this concept is a fascinating journey into fundamental human values, accountability, and co-existence.  Take a listen to this amazing speaker and see if you can find one thing you can change in your world to succeed in your role and not "get fired" from any part of your life.

Grand Canyon RIM 2 RIM - The Trail of Truth and the Obstacle of your Mind

Can you overcome the obstacle of your mind?

What is your physical and mental limit? Can your mind delete any physical pain if you learn how to put mind over body?

Have you ever experienced it, and how did you know you had nothing left?

Tonight Cullen and Raj will discuss their much awaited trip to the Grand Canyon.  They embark on the one-day RIM-2-RIM hike that took them down 5700 ft and then up 4500 feet over 50 degrees of temperature variation and across all sorts of challenging terrain - all over 23 miles.

They discuss the motives for a friendship challenge like this and what it means for the friendship and for personal achievement, introspection, and self worth.  Raj talks about the 100 emotions one experiences on the hike and also about some friends that pushed their RIM2RIM hike to the brink of medical catastrophe.

The Case for Christianity - with Jack Kehoe, Part 2

The Case for Christianity - with Jack Kehoe, Part 2

This is, perhaps, the most crucial talk we have had to date.  This is part 2 of 2.

    Do you believe in God?
Are you a person of "faith?"
Do you believe in no God?  In a higher power?  Do you believe in yourself?
What do you think happens after you die?

If you are atheist, agnostic, of any faith or religion, or of Christianity, then believe it or not this episode is for you.

Why does this matter?  Why is ER Docs and Crucial Talks Podcast doing an episode on Jesus Christ?  Tune in and find out, and see how Cullen and Raj figure that out along the way.

We welcome on once again Jack Kehoe, Cullen's dad, a former Jesuit priest and master of conflict resolution.

I challenged Jack in a previous episode to make a case for Christianity -- Why, Jack?  Why do I commit myself to this or any religion/faith, for that matter, in order to be closer to God?

Jack does not let me down.

The intro and exit music of our podcast is written and performed by Cullen Kehoe.

How did this find me??

I find most of my podcasts from guests on podcasts I already listen to. This pod popped up on my Facebook feed, not a common occurrence, since Cullen and Raj are EM docs and I have been in EM for 12 years, I thought I’d give it a listen...I AM HOOKED! This podcast goes places I’d never expect and I love it! This is my new favorite podcast!
