Ahead of taking Escape Artists backstage at the wonderful 2000trees Festival on 6th-9th July in Cheltenham, UK, Danny (pronouns: he/him) teams up with Kerrang! writer and all-round lovely human Sam Law (he/him) to look at this year’s incredible lineup: from the headlining bill of Jimmy Eat World, Thrice, Turnstile, Idles and You Me At Six, to the must-see bands playing across the weekend - quite frankly, there’s way too many to list here but it's basically the greatest lineup on the planet…

#003: Puppy (Jock Norton, Billy Howard and Will Michael)

Ahead of the release of their sophomore album 'Pure Evil', Danny (pronouns: he/him) sits down with London-based alt-rock pranksters Puppy: lead singer/guitarist Jock Norton (he/him), drummer Billy Howard (he/him) and bassist/singer Will Michael (he/him).

The band talk about their decision to self-produce 'Pure Evil' in the face of the global pandemic, their approach to their often-baffling visuals and their upcoming UK tour (AKA 'Tour Evil'). You can also expect chat about Danny Elfman, creepy nursery rhymes and the much-missed Gadget Shop along the way...

#001: Justine Jones & Sammy Urwin (Employed to Serve / Church Road Records / Glorious / Bile)

Welcome to the first episode of Escape Artists: a podcast about music, film and other escapist artforms!

In this bumper pilot, host Danny Randon (pronouns: he/him) sits down with Justine Jones (she/her) and Sammy Urwin (he/him), lead vocalist and guitarist/co-vocalist of UK metal titans Employed to Serve, ahead of the release of their incredible fourth album 'Conquering' on 17th September via Spinefarm Records / Universal Music Group.

Justine and Sammy also co-run Church Road Records, the record label that has been behind some of the standout alternative, heavy and extreme music releases of the last few years, from the likes of Palm Reader, Svalbard, Slow Crush, Celestial Sanctuary and more. If that's not enough, they also play together in a multitude of musical projects, including the hardcore punk supergroup Glorious and their deathgrind duo Bile.

During this episode, Justine and Sammy talk about the sensational 12 months that they've had at Church Road Records, as well as their journey to creating the new Employed to Serve record. Expect chat along the way about work ethic, collaborations and how to stay in love with music even when it dominates your day-to-day life.
