    One Week To Live: Victory!

    One Week To Live: Victory!

This past Sunday (4/4) we celebrate the date we believe that Jesus’ victory over the power of sin and death in this world occurred.  We celebrate the incredible way in which He expressed His love for us.   A love and a victory that can be yours if you choose Him.  Jesus has already done all and I mean all of the heavy lifting.  Now it is up to you to decide, will you accept His love?  Will you accept His gift of forgiveness, grace and mercy?  Do you want to spend eternity with Jesus in Heaven?  Right now, is the moment to believe.

We pray that you had an incredible Easter Weekend!   If you know someone that has not heard of what happened on that day so many years ago, please share this message with them!

One week to live: Jesus’ Answer

One week to live: Jesus’ Answer

    John 12:37

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in Him.

John writes his gospel much later in life.  As he is recording the events of the last week of Jesus’ life, I can only imagine him shaking his head with a tear in his eye as he reflects on this reality.  Jesus had done some much yet people still would not believe.  This week we will look at several of the questions that Jesus was asked by the religious leaders.  How His answers forced them to show all their cards and reveal their true motives.  As the end nears, Jesus chooses His words wisely as He calls out the leaders for who they are and the ways in which they are leading people away from God.

These scenes from Jesus’ life had to have been exciting, dramatic and likely frightening at times for His followers.  They must have heard rumors of those in power are seeking to take their Messiah’s life and wonder how that could be?  Jesus was here to take over, to rule forever, right?

One Week to Live: What would you do?

One Week to Live: What would you do?

If you only had one week left to live, what would you do?  As I pondered this question, I began to come up with a list of things that I wanted to do for me.  People I wanted to spend time with, places I wanted to see, foods I wanted to eat, and on and on.  What about you?

Over the next few weeks, we are going to look at the last week of Jesus’ life.  Not every event but a few that represent what He was focused on.  He was a man on a mission.  Nothing would stop Him from His final destination, the Cross.  Jesus’ last week was inspiring for some educational for others.  It was confusing to some of those closest to Him and infuriating to those in opposition to Him.  We are going to look at all of these and a few more as we enter into the Easter Season together.

Thriving in Babylon… Daniel: The Wisdom of God on Display

Thriving in Babylon… Daniel: The Wisdom of God on Display

I am so thankful that you are joining us for this episode!  I absolutely love Daniel for so many reasons.  But I genuinely enjoy sharing things from his life that are usually not a part of the traditional stories.  This is our final week in a short survey of his life.  Please share this message with anyone you know that might listen.

Thriving in Babylon… Daniel:  The Wisdom of God on Display

Daniel’s wisdom helped him pick his battles. Let me explain.  As a teenage male, his country was defeated, his city destroyed, family and friends murdered, he was captured along with thousands of Israelites.  What’s the first thing he seemed to do?  Stand up for his faith, he did not want to defile his body and his God with unclean food.  So, he respectfully and politely asked to pass on the king’s food and drink in favor of his kosher Jewish diet.  When granted permission he did not make a big deal of it. He and his friends quietly ate according to the Jewish rules they had followed their whole life.  At the end of the 10 days, young Daniel’s wisdom can be observed.  When his theory proved correct and he and his friends were found in better condition than all the other young men, he did not gloat.  He did not shame all the other Jewish young men who did not share their convictions.  He did not seek an audience with the king to prove the ways of God and to try to implement these dietary rules for all the other trainees.  What did they do?

They went to work.  The three years of training began.   At the end of the 3 years, it says that “In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.” Daniel 1:20

Daniel’s hope in God, the humble way in which he responded to each victory and the wisdom he showed as he picked his battles allowed him to advance up in the Babylonian ladder and earn the respect, trust and ear of the Babylonian leaders.  Through this series, we have talked about the hope of Daniel, true biblical hope.  The humility of Daniel.  Committing to a life of respecting and serving others above ourselves in every situation.  And finally, Daniel’s Godly wisdom.  We must strive to live by and to demonstrate the wisdom of God in modern-day Babylon if we are to thrive.  But what does that look like? How can we thrive?

Humility: How credibility is earned and hearts are won

Humility: How credibility is earned and hearts are won

Thriving in Babylon… Humility: How credibility is earned and hearts are won.

What is humility and how can it help to share the love of Jesus with an unbelieving world? The world will often see humility as a form of weakness. God’s Word has something quite different to share. Daniel’s humble nature earned him the respect and the ear of the most powerful leaders. Daniel’s life of humility reveals to us how we can build credibility and trust even within a world that is trying to destroy us. Daniel faithfully served the evil kings who were over him so well that he was continually promoted to more powerful and influential positions. Daniel even led two kings to proclaim that His God was the only true God.

In a world that seemingly only wants to fight and shout down the opposition, we should take a different approach. To humbly serve everyone who is made in the image of God. For anyone wondering, that would include everyone. Our hope is to win everyone to Jesus. We are not called to defeat anyone except the enemy and our enemy is not flesh and blood. (Ephesians 6:12) Daniel’s model of humility will work in the world today because Daniel’s example is the example of Jesus.

Thriving in Babylon Week 3: Biblical Hope

Thriving in Babylon Week 3: Biblical Hope

    Thriving in Babylon…Biblical Hope

What is hope? In our current society, it is everything from wishful thinking to a form of positive thinking or visualization to a political slogan. Is that what hope really is? This week we will be sharing with you the first of three characteristics that helped a man named Daniel to thrive in exile. Daniel had hope. A deep-rooted, engrained, entrenched confidence in God’s character and sovereignty. Daniel’s hope was not just in his words either. He literally staked his life on it, multiple times.

One of my favorite passages in all of God’s Word comes from the apostle Peter.

    1 Peter 3:15.

But in your hearts revere, (set apart,) Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the HOPE that you have.

The challenge to us is not to make a list of reasons why we “hope” that Jesus might be the Messiah. We are to share how we are absolutely certain that He is!

If this world has left you will little or no hope lost or confused then please consider joining us this Sunday to hear about the hope of Daniel. It is the same hope that is available to each of us today!
