…hit him in the head, right between the eyes. | Earth Station Boo

This week on Earth Station Boo, we’re joined by special guest Jake to revisit George A. Romero’s 1968 classic, Night of the Living Dead. Made on a small budget, this film changed horror forever with its raw visuals, practical effects, and intense atmosphere. We discuss the film’s black-and-white cinematography and documentary-style approach, as well as its powerful social themes of race, fear, and unrest. We also focus on Duane Jones’ groundbreaking performance as Ben and the film’s shocking ending, which challenged traditional horror tropes. Join us as we explore why Night of the Living Dead remains one of the most influential horror films of all time. Subscribe now to Earth Station Boo where we talk all things horror. Let’s Get Spooky! Looking Back, Looking Forward

Episode 42: Looking Back, Looking Forward Subtitle: From Boxing Day Chaos to Big 2026 Plans In this episode, we hit pause on the year and take a look back before charging ahead. We are looking back, looking forward! We kick things off with Christmas. Specifically, the kind with too much food, loud games, and a Boxing Day party packed with friends. Shawn asks Leah what she got for Christmas. Leah does not return the favor. Classic. She did, however, score some LEGO and gear to support her growing beekeeping ambitions. From there, we talk shop. Etsy sales were solid, but holiday shipping delays were not. We vent a little about customers blaming sellers for postal delays. Once a package is dropped off, it’s out of our hands. If only everyone believed that. A major conversation centers on parasocial relationships and how deeply people connect with online personalities. This comes up through discussion of the reported death of YouTuber Adam the Woo and how quickly misinformation spreads, especially when audiences feel personally invested in creators they’ve never met. Closer to home, we talk about Algoma Steel announcing major layoffs this spring and what that means for our community. We also reflect on the passing of the last surviving Dionne Quintuplet. Shawn shares some perspective from his years living in North Bay, where they were born. Looking back on 2025, we run through some big milestones: road trips, Florida travel, a cruise, a quick hit at Halloween Horror Nights, and planting a pear tree in our backyard to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Shawn also shares an update from the postal world, where after two strikes and nearly two years of negotiations, the union and corporation finally reached a contract settlement. We wrap things up by looking ahead to 2026. Bees are coming to the backyard. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres soon. And in August, we’re heading out to the World’s Longest Yard Sale, because of course we are. Thanks for being part of the ride—past, present, and what’s coming next. To a new world of gods & monsters  | Earth Station Boo

This week on Earth Station Boo, we travel back to the golden age of horror with a celebration of the Classic Universal Monsters. These legendary films helped shape the horror genre and continue to influence it today. We revisit the gothic dread of Dracula, the tragic horror of Frankenstein, the chilling howls of The Wolf Man, and the eerie depths of The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Each of these iconic monsters left a lasting mark on horror history. During the episode, we break down what makes each monster so memorable. We discuss the makeup magic and groundbreaking special effects that brought them to life. We also explore their legacy through decades of remakes, reboots, and reinterpretations. Were these monsters truly villains, or were they misunderstood figures trapped by fate? We also look at how Bride of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man challenged audience expectations. Most importantly, we ask why these characters still resonate nearly 100 years later. Join us as we share our favorite films, discuss the cultural impact of the original monster mash-ups, and imagine what a modern Universal Monsters universe could look like. Whether you’re Team Dracula or ride-or-die for the Gill-Man, this episode is for you. Subscribe now to Earth Station Boo where we talk all things horror. Let’s Get Spooky!
