This week host of Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio, Dennis Tubbergen, talks with Dr. A. Gary Shilling, publisher of the Insight newsletter, about the state of the US economy and the possibility of a recession. Dr. Shilling points out several recessionary indicators, such as declining consumer intentions to buy houses and cars, declining consumer confidence, and a decline in small business hiring intentions. He expresses concerns about the high valuation of US stocks, which he believes are overpriced compared to earnings and other investments, and suggests that a correction of 20-30% or even larger could be possible. 2024-01-21 Retirement Lifestyle Advocates Radio w/ Murray Gunn
Murray Gunn, the head of global research at Elliott Wave International, joins your host, Dennis Tubbergen, today on Retirement Lifestyle Advocates radio. Mr. Gunn explains the concept of Elliott wave analysis, which is a model of the economy that identifies repeatable patterns in market behavior. He discusses how these patterns can be used to forecast price developments in various markets, including currencies, commodities, and stocks. Gunn warns that the stock market may experience a decline in 2024, based on Elliott wave analysis and the presence of a Dow Theory non-confirmation, and suggests that cash and certain corporate bonds may be good investment options during this period. Gunn also introduces the concept of socionomics, which posits that social mood drives social actions and can be observed in the stock market and other cultural trends. He speculates that China may experience negative social actions in the near future based on a long-term price pattern and the country's negative social mood.
Murray Gunn is Head of Global Research at Elliott Wave International. He worked as a fund manager in global bonds, currencies, and stocks, including long posts at Standard Life Investments and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. He then joined HSBC Bank as Head of Technical Analysis. Murray is the author of Trading Regime Analysis (Wiley, 2009) and a contributor to Socionomic Studies of Society and Culture (Socionomics Institute Press, 2017).
