Jonathan Larson's groundbreaking musical Rent premiered on Broadway in 1996. Over the years, musical theater fans all over the world have become Rent-heads, Rent-haters, and Rent-indifferent-istas. Comedians (and die-hard Rent fans) Beth Appel and Sarah Claspell shoot without a script as they dedicate each episode to a song from Rent, bringing on fellow comedians and musical theater nerds to talk about what they love, hate, and are baffled by in this divisive musical. Viva La Vie Boheme!

Bonus Episode: Listener Message Round-Up + Rent 20th Anniversary Tour with Matt Mayer

Turn on your podcast player! Beth and Sarah have been in space for 6 months, but now they’re BACK with a special holiday episode featuring the hilarious and talented sensitive poet Matt Mayer (Monstro, Earth To Ned on Disney+). Listen to some vague memories of the 20th Anniversary Rent tour, which they saw on July 10th and play along by coming up with your own pun lyrics/song titles for an imaginary production of Rent set under the sea. Learn what it takes to become a wife of a podcast and get some inside info about who (or what???) Lin Manuel Miranda's wife is. Matt reveals which character is the "Rosetta Stone" of Rent, and Sarah and Beth visit some emails and DMs that have come in since their last episode in June. All of this brought to you by CBS All Access and NOT AMDA.

Rent: The Movie with Doug Benson

Rent: The Movie with Doug Benson

The time has come: Sarah and Beth got together to watch the 2005 film adaptation of Rent. And who better to talk about it with than the ultimate movie fan and comedy hero, Doug Benson (Doug Loves Movies)! Doug also loves Broadway musicals and he accurately describes the main objectives of the Rent characters: they just want a place to write songs and burn things. There is much discussion of Sarah Silverman's cameo in the movie, the choice to change lyrics into spoken dialogue, Chris Columbus' name, and, of course, Showtime vs. HBO. Doug also tells the story of the time Ray Walston asked Doug to goose him, Beth reveals juicy Anne Hathaway goss, and Sarah dishes on her long-standing Mush crush. Do Doug, Sarah and Beth like the movie? Hate it? Feel a third way about it? Listen to find out!

Only Good Things

Lets be real, there's been a huge gap in your life since the early 2000's because it has become increasingly in poor taste to talk about RENT. All is healed by this podcast, which is both my favorite and my first ever podcast listening experience.
