    Say goodbye to 2020 with an episode celebrating our favorite goth aesthete and cinematic genius, Orson Welles. Yes, he is a goth icon and in this episode of the Evil Eye, Rob and Samm will explain why — from his dashing cape fashions to his constant use of gothic themes throughout his prolific work as a director, actor, producer, and adapter of literature. The episode focuses on some of his goth-est films from The Stranger (1946) to The Trial (1962) and covers all of our favorite subjects, like WWII conspiracy theories to radical leftist politics. This is a movie about a Marilyn Manson rip off playing his final show on an airplane (seriously) to a number of lucky fans… until the plane is hijacked by satanic terrorists who want to usher in the apocalypse! Naturally, the only thing standing between humanity and total destruction is a super hacker, who is forced to team up with a sexy FBI agent determined to arrest him. If you’ve never seen or heard of this movie, all we can say is YOU’RE WELCOME. In this episode, the Evil Eye is continuing their October celebration of horror icon and greatest living human Vincent Price with a look at Robert Fuest’s black comedy-horror masterpiece, The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), and its sequel Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972). You know what that means, right? Ghosts and ghouls and… Vincent Price? Yes! The Evil Eye is celebrating the month of October with a full month of episodes highlighting the King of the Grand Guignol himself. We’re kicking things off with House of Usher, a 1960 Roger Corman adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s famous short story. Could it be… a movie titled Mirror, Mirror? The 1990 horror film is about a young goth girl named Megan who moves from Los Angeles to the boonies after the death of her father. She encounters mean girls, evil shirtless boyfriends, and a horny, possessed mirror, as one does in situations like this. Does Megan overcome the mean girls and prove goths take shit from no one, and more importantly, does she hook up with the mirror? Listen to find out! In this episode, Rob and Samm have gone to Texas with the 1987 vampire cowboy epic Near Dark. A milquetoast good ol’ boy rolls into town in his pickup and meets the girl of his dreams. Unfortunately for him, she’s a vampire. She turns him and he gets abducted by her merry band of vampire outlaws. They raise hell, as only a group led by Lance Henriksen could, until they end up on the wrong side of the law. Shoot outs, bloodshed, and exploding vampires ensue. But the real question is… are these vampire cowboys goth? Listen in to find out! Each episode will dissect a film that fits the goth aesthetic and explore the music and culture in the year that film was released. In this episode, Rob and Samm have fixed their evil eye(s) on Brad Sykes’ 2003 shot-on-video extravaganza, Goth. A bored and unconvincing goth couple attends a show at a goth club and meets a woman named Goth. No, we are not making this up! She proceeds to take them on a violent, drug-fueled journey through their darkest fears/desires/who actually knows. While this might not be the best goth film ever made (and in fact it might be the worst), the important thing is that it establishes the three rules for being goth. And if you don’t want to be a f*****g poser, you’re going to have to listen to the episode to find out. WARNING: This episode references sexual assault and violence.
