    Culinary Worldschooling: Our Local, Seasonal, Sustainable Learning On-the-Move

    Karen M. Ricks is a Christian wife, Worldschooling mom, and a nomadic chef. Teaching for 24 years, she has been a Montessorian since her own preschool days. She holds Montessori teaching certifications for guiding children from infancy through elementary. She has cooked professionally, in restaurants, commercial kitchens, and private homes on four different continents over the last decade. After 10 years of teaching in central Japan, where Karen founded and operated her own international Montessori school, she sold it all to begin a nomadic life of full-time travel with her family. Karen spreads her message of embracing a Slow Food Lifestyle, a lifelong love of learning, and education for peace by teaching people of all ages how to cook for themselves and why they need to share that gift with those they love.     Black Children & Identity Formation in American Public Schools

    What a delightful conversation filled with research, real and laughter. This is an educational conversation around identity formation and African-American children. Another conversation that can extend beyond this episode due to the depth of the conversation. A little about my guest -    Darnell Leatherwood is an award winning speaker, educator, and businessman. A doctoral candidate at the University of Chicago, he has authored peer reviewed scholarly articles in a variety of academic journals, serves as a founding member of Thrive Chicago’s & President Barack Obama’s My Brother's Keeper Alliance Action Team in Chicago, and serves as a Young Scholar on The Journal of Negro Education Editorial/Advisory Board out of Howard University in Washington DC. Additionally and maybe most notably, Darnell is the founder and CEO of Black Boys Shine, a campaign to illuminate the character and contributions of Black boys and men nationally and internationally (www.BlackBoysShine.com).     Introduction to Evolving Education Globally Podcast

    Evolving Education Globally will look at global education systems and discuss whether they are sufficient to meet the needs for children into the future. We will further explore how education has changed and answer a few essential questions: 1. How can we evolve education to meet the needs of children (mentally, emotionally, communally, etc)? 2. How did we get here? 3. What are some best practices and ideas that are working and what is not working and why? Just to name a few.  We will look at education systems globally and find solutions to the crisis in education.
