Evolving with Tina

Tina Tyler

Evolving with Tina is a podcast for women who are tired of constantly questioning themselves and are ready to start trusting what they see, feel and experience. If you replay conversations, wonder whether you’re overreacting, feel responsible for other people’s emotions, or spend far too much time trying to make sense of behaviour that leaves you confused, you’re in the right place. Hosted by author and speaker Tina Tyler, Evolving with Tina is a space where women can feel seen, heard and understood while making sense of the experiences that have left them questioning themselves. Through her Let’s Make Sense of It series, Tina takes the confusing moments that happen in relationships, families and everyday life and slows them down. Why did they react like that? Why do I feel guilty for saying no? Why do I keep explaining myself and still feel misunderstood? Why am I changing my behaviour just to keep the peace? Together, we explore what might be happening underneath the behaviour, how it’s affecting you, and what you might not be seeing yet, without diagnosing people or telling you what you should do. Because sometimes we become so focused on understanding someone else’s behaviour that we don’t notice what it’s doing to us. Tina isn’t here to preach or pretend she has it all figured out. She’s here to walk beside you as you make sense of your experiences, understand yourself more deeply, and build the self-trust to move forward in a way that feels right for you. You don’t have to have everything figured out. Come as you are. Evolve as you go.

Episode 36: Why Do I Feel Like I Have to Explain Myself?

Have you ever said no to an invitation and immediately started explaining why? Or missed someone's call and felt the need to explain what you were doing, even though they never asked? Sometimes explaining is simply thoughtful communication. But what happens when it doesn’t feel like a choice? When you feel like you need a reason for saying no, being unavailable, ending a conversation, or making a decision someone else might not like? In this episode of Let’s Make Sense of It, we’re exploring overexplaining and the question underneath it: What feels uncomfortable about letting my answer be enough? We’ll look at why you might overexplain more with certain people, how you can start preparing for someone’s reaction before they’ve even had one, and why someone being disappointed with your answer doesn’t necessarily mean you need to explain it better. I also share a real moment with one of my sons that made me realize something about my own habit of overexplaining: sometimes I’m already expecting questions, judgement or pushback that hasn’t actually happened. Using the SENSE framework, we’ll slow the pattern down and explore the difference between explaining because you want to and explaining because you feel like you have to. Because sometimes clarity isn’t finding the perfect words that finally make someone understand you. Sometimes clarity is realizing… you already said enough. 🦋 RESOURCES FREE GUIDE - I Lost Myself: Come Back to You A gentle place to start reconnecting with yourself. Episode 35: What Happens When You Keep Evolving… But Your Relationship Doesn’t?

What happens when you keep changing, but your relationship still expects you to be the person you used to be? Maybe you’re speaking up more, asking for more help and paying attention to your own needs. But instead of your relationship growing with you, it suddenly feels harder. In Episode 35 of Let’s Make Sense of It, we’re talking about quiet quitting a marriage, emotional disconnection and what can happen when you stop playing the role that once kept your relationship comfortable. This episode was inspired by a conversation on The Oprah Podcast about women who are still married but have emotionally checked out of their relationships. One story in particular made me wonder: How much can a woman emotionally disappear from a relationship while continuing to do everything that makes the relationship look fine? In this episode, we explore: • Why changing can create conflict in a long-term relationship • How keeping the peace can hide problems instead of solving them • The mental load many women carry at home • What happens when you stop carrying everything alone • The difference between struggling with change and refusing to take part in it • How to tell whether your relationship has room for the person you are now Maybe you haven’t outgrown your partner. Maybe you’ve outgrown the version of yourself you became to keep the relationship working. This conversation isn’t about diagnosing anyone or telling you whether to stay or leave. It’s about helping you see the pattern more clearly so you can stop automatically blaming yourself. Episode 34: Why Do I Feel Like I’m Walking on Eggshells Around My Partner?

Have you ever found yourself carefully choosing your words, checking your partner’s mood, or waiting for the “right” time to bring something up because you’re worried about how they might react? A fellow Evolver submitted a question many of us can relate to: Why does he continue to react this way? How do I stop it? I feel like I’m walking on eggshells around him. In this episode of Let’s Make Sense of It, we slow down what happened and explore what might be going on beneath the surface when a partner reacts strongly to questions, misunderstandings, or requests for clarification. We talk about the difference between trying to communicate clearly and feeling responsible for preventing someone else’s reaction, why you may start changing your own behaviour to keep the peace, and what you can pay attention to when this becomes a pattern. Because understanding why someone behaves a certain way doesn’t mean you have to keep accepting the effect their behaviour has on you. 🎧 In this episode:  What “walking on eggshells” can actually look like  Why you may start monitoring someone else’s mood before you speak  The difference between understanding a reaction and excusing it  Why asking for clarification isn’t automatically doing something wrong  What happens when you start taking responsibility for another person’s emotions  How to begin trusting your own experience again  💛 Want to go a little deeper? Episode 33: Why Do I Make Myself Uncomfortable to Keep Everyone Else Comfortable?

Have you ever said yes when you really wanted to say no, stayed quiet to avoid an argument, or taken care of something yourself because dealing with someone else’s disappointment felt harder? In this episode of Let’s Make Sense of It, I’m answering a question submitted by one of our fellow Evolvers. We’re calling her Trish, and she wants to understand why she keeps putting herself out just to keep everyone else happy. And it raises a much bigger question: When did someone else’s discomfort become something you believe you’re responsible for preventing, even at your own expense? Sometimes you do a little mental math without even realizing it. You know how to deal with your own discomfort. You can swallow it, push through it, tell yourself it’s fine. Somehow, that can feel easier than dealing with someone else being disappointed, frustrated or upset with you. So you take the discomfort. Again and again. In this episode, I explore where that pattern might come from, why keeping the peace can actually reinforce it, and what it can cost you over time. I also share a personal experience from becoming a co-author of She Is Worthy, when I realized I was editing my own story because I was worried about how other people might feel hearing my truth. And I share an illustration a therapist once gave me that completely changed how I looked at carrying other people’s stress, problems and discomfort. If you’ve ever struggled with people pleasing, saying no, setting boundaries, worrying about someone’s reaction, or putting everyone else’s comfort ahead of your own, this conversation is for you. A question to sit with: Why am I working so hard to protect someone else from a feeling I’m expecting myself to tolerate? 💬 Have something you can’t make sense of? Episode 32: Why Does My Partner Get Defensive When I Tell Them How I Feel? | Let’s Make Sense of It

Have you ever tried to tell your partner how you feel, only to have the conversation somehow turn into an argument? You went into it wanting to feel heard or connected. But somewhere along the way, your partner became defensive, you started explaining yourself, and you walked away wondering: Did I say it wrong? Am I being too sensitive? Should I have just let it go? Welcome to Episode 32 of Evolving with Tina and the very first episode of my new series, Let's Make Sense of It. This is where we're going to slow down the situations, conversations, and behaviours that leave you confused and look at them from a few different angles. And today, we're starting with defensiveness in relationships. Because there's something that can be surprisingly easy to miss when you're in the middle of one of these conversations: Sometimes the conversation you're having isn't the conversation you started. You may have started by saying: "I've been feeling disconnected from you." But your partner may have heard: "You're failing me." And before you know it, you're no longer talking about how you feel. You're explaining what you meant, reassuring them, or defending yourself against something you weren't trying to say in the first place. In this episode, we'll explore why that can happen, how to recognize when the conversation has shifted, and the difference between one difficult conversation and a pattern that keeps repeating. I'll also give you three questions to take with you: What was I originally trying to communicate? Are we still talking about that? And if we're not, when did the conversation change? And there's something else I hope you'll carry with you throughout this entire series: You can understand why someone did something without accepting that it was okay. Let's Make Sense of It isn't about diagnosing people or pretending we can know exactly why someone behaves the way they do. We're going to explore different possibilities, consider what we might not be seeing, and try to understand our own experiences a little more clearly. Because the goal isn't certainty. It's clarity. Have a story you want us to make sense of? Maybe there's a conversation you keep replaying. A behaviour you don't understand. A relationship, friendship, family situation, workplace interaction, or experience that has left you thinking: "What just happened here?" I want to hear about it. You can share your story anonymously using the form below, or if you'd rather tell me directly, you can send me an email. You don't have to use your real name, and you can change or leave out identifying details. Your story may be selected for a future episode of Let's Make Sense of It. Today marks the beginning of a new series called Let's Make Sense of It. Have you ever walked away from a conversation wondering... "What just happened?" Maybe you've replayed it over and over. Questioned yourself. Wondered if you were asking for too much. Or found yourself trying to make sense of someone else's behaviour long after the moment had passed. If so, you're not alone. In this introduction, I share why I created Let's Make Sense of It and what you can expect from this new series. This isn't about diagnosing people or claiming to have all the answers. It's about slowing confusing experiences down, exploring different possibilities, and finding enough clarity to stop automatically blaming ourselves. If you've ever been left questioning yourself after a relationship, conversation, or experience that didn't make sense... You're in the right place. Our first full episode releases this Sunday: "Why does my partner get defensive every time I express how I feel?" Episode 30: When You Tell the Truth and Become the Problem

Have you ever said something true and somehow ended up being the one who caused the problem? You didn't lie. You didn't start anything. You just said what happened. And suddenly the whole conversation flipped and now it's about you. Your tone. Your sensitivity. Your "need for drama." Yeah. Me too. In this episode I'm getting really honest about what happens when you tell the truth in relationships and families where honesty isn't actually welcome. Why the person who names reality almost always becomes the problem. And why no matter how calm you stay or how carefully you choose your words, it never seems to land the way you hoped. I share my own moment of sitting in my driveway, not knowing how to go back inside after being twisted into the wrong again. How I spent years trying to find the right words to make people finally get it. How I kept explaining, kept defending, kept hoping this time would be different. And the moment I realized the problem was never my delivery. Because here's what I know now. Some people are not confused about what you're saying. They understand you perfectly. They just refuse to go there. And no amount of explaining is going to change that. In this episode we get into: ✨ why telling the truth in certain relationships gets you punished instead of believed  ✨ how gaslighting and emotional manipulation quietly flip the narrative onto you  ✨ why over-explaining and defending yourself is keeping you stuck  ✨ the third option that exists between speaking up and staying silent  ✨ why "Okay." might be the most powerful thing you ever say If you have ever been called too sensitive for saying something real... If you have spent years waiting for someone to just admit it... If you have felt yourself slowly disappearing trying to make people understand your heart... This episode is for you. 💌 Loved this episode? I would love to hear from you. Episode 29: Survival Mode - What It Really Is and How to Start Coming Back to Yourself.

Have you ever felt that kind of tired where you don't even know what you need anymore? Not sleepy tired. Just... empty. Like you're showing up, you're keeping it together, but somewhere along the way you stopped feeling like yourself and you can't even pinpoint when it happened. Yeah. Me too. In this episode I'm getting really honest about survival mode - what it actually is, what it quietly does to your brain, your body, and your sense of self, and why so many of us have been living there without even realizing it. I share what it felt like to lose myself piece by piece in certain seasons of my life. How I mistook my anxiety for my personality. How I became so good at reading the room and managing everyone else that I completely lost my own frequency. And the moment I finally understood that wasn't who I was. That was who I had become. Because here's what I know now, survival mode doesn't announce itself. It just slowly becomes your normal. Until you don't know who you are outside of it. In this episode we get into: ✨ what's actually happening in your brain and body when you're in survival mode  ✨ why your nervous system can't tell the difference between a physical threat and an emotional one  ✨ how survival mode quietly reshapes your personality — and why that's not your fault  ✨ what actually helps you shift out of it — and why you can't just think your way there  ✨ what you can do right now, even if you're still in it and leaving isn't an option yet If you've been exhausted in a way you can't explain... If you've been showing up for everyone else while quietly disappearing from yourself... If you've ever wondered why you know better but still can't seem to feel better... This episode is for you. 💌 Loved this episode?
