    Football Australia Boss & Matildas Legend Heather Garriock

    Aged 12, Heather Garriock watched Kieran Perkins win Olympic Gold at Atlanta 1996. Heather’s vision of her life was set from that point on. Not long later, she trialled to make the Football squad at Westfields Sports High School. There were 200 boys trialling, and Heather. She made the squad of 16. Three years later Heather became an Olympian at the Sydney Games, and went on to play 130 matches for the Matildas, compete at two Olympics, three World Cups, and enter the Hall of Fame. Heather is now the first CEO of Football Australia. This is her story.

In the USA, it’s one in three girls, and one in 13 boys.  More than 330,000 children went missing in the USA, last year alone. Our children are our most sacred, and Ju’Riese Colon has dedicated her entire life to protecting them.  The trained criminologist spent 15 years with the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, before becoming a Vice-President at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and then CEO for the National Center for SafeSport. Ju’Riese takes us inside this crucial subject matter- with information we can use, that just might help make a difference. We talk values, trust, and dealing with dark side of the moon. Ju’Riese opens up about her time at SafeSport- the wins, the lessons learned, and her perpetual mission to help our most vulnerable.

    Episode Two: Olympic Gold Medallist Natalie Cook on her mission to fix our athlete poverty crisis

    Every four years, for two weeks, our Australian Olympic athletes captivate the nation and bring hope and joy to the people. However, outside of the spotlight, 46% of our elite competitors struggle to live on just $23,000 a year, below the poverty line of $25,000 in Australia. In response to this, Nat Cook has established the Aussie Athlete Fund - a program similar to a mini-AIS but focused on the business of sport and sponsorship. Along with etrainu, Nat has developed an online education platform to empower athletes to improve their marketing skills and achieve financial sustainability. Nat will also provide personalised assistance to athletes, guiding and coaching them on this journey. The Aussie Athlete Fund serves as a platform for businesses to support our athletes. Nat and her team will facilitate the matching of athletes with businesses to ensure mutual benefit. Today, Nat sheds light on the harsh reality of athletes living in poverty and emphasises the need for a shift in mindset to create a culture where everyone can succeed.
