Becoming Elisabeth Elliot by Ellen Vaughn, Joni Eareckson Tada

Title: Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Author: Ellen Vaughn, Joni Eareckson Tada Narrator: Connie Shabshab Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 12 hours 50 minutes Release date: November 4, 2024 Genres: Counseling & Inspirational Publisher's Summary: Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband Jim and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal . . . and lived in the jungle with the Stone-Age people who killed her husband. Compelled by her friendship and forgiveness, many came to faith in Jesus.   This courageous, no-nonsense Christian went on to write dozens of books, host a long-running radio show, and speak at conferences all over the world. She was a pillar of coherent, committed faith; a beloved and sometimes controversial icon. In this authorized biography, Becoming Elisabeth Elliot, bestselling author Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history. It’s the story of a hilarious, sensual, brilliant, witty, self-deprecating, sensitive, radical, and surprisingly relatable person utterly submitted to doing God’s will, no matter how high the cost. For Elisabeth, the central question was not, “How does this make me feel?” but, simply, “is this true?” If so, then the next question was, “what do I need to do about it to obey God?”

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century Russia, the novel delves into themes of faith, morality, and the nature of existence with unparalleled depth and intensity. At its heart are the three brothers: Dmitri, Ivan, and Alyosha, each embodying different facets of the human experience. Their struggles, conflicts, and inner turmoil are mirrored in the larger societal upheavals of their time, creating a tapestry of existential angst and moral ambiguity that captivates readers with its raw emotional power and philosophical complexity. As the brothers navigate their relationships with each other and with their enigmatic father, Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov, they grapple with questions of identity, responsibility, and the search for meaning in a world marked by suffering and uncertainty. Dostoevsky's narrative is a masterful exploration of the human condition, probing the depths of the psyche and exposing the contradictions inherent in human nature. Through the vividly drawn characters and intricate plotlines, 'The Brothers Karamazov' offers not only a profound meditation on the nature of good and evil but also a timeless reflection on the eternal struggle between faith and doubt, reason and passion. This seminal work stands as a testament to Dostoevsky's unparalleled insight into the complexities of the human soul, leaving an indelible mark on literature and inviting readers to ponder the mysteries of existence long after the final page is turned.

Title: Every Story Ever Told Author: Ami Polonsky Narrator: Cassie Holloway Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 5 hours 16 minutes Release date: October 29, 2024 Genres: Non-fiction Publisher's Summary: In this life-affirming novel of trauma and recovery, a girl searches for a path forward after being forced to confront the reality of gun violence, for fans of Dusti Bowling and Jasmine Warga.   Stevie Jane Cohen-Kaplan’s sheltered suburban life is shattered by a mass shooting at a festival in her town. In the aftermath, her brain feels broken. She can’t bear to visit her mom, recovering in the hospital under Stevie’s dad’s watchful eye, or to be pent up in her grandparents’ nearby Manhattan apartment.   To escape the apartment and her own thoughts, Stevie starts adventuring around New York City with her best friend, Avi, and a new therapy dog (in training). The trio starts chasing stories—about a neighbor’s life after the Holocaust, Stevie’s grandfathers who died of AIDS long before she was born, and even about her own mom’s activist upbringing. These stories may not bring Stevie all the way back to “normal,” but can they help her find a new version of herself?   Written with compassion and care, Every Story Ever Told places readers at the center of their own story and within a larger human tapestry, as one girl tries to make sense of the unthinkable.

Title: Losing Neverland Series: #1 of Escapism Author: Evelyn Montgomery Narrator: Maxine Mitchell, Joe Arden Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 25 minutes Release date: October 29, 2024 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 3 Ratings of Narrator: 5 of Total 3 Genres: Romantasy Publisher's Summary: All is not as it seems in Neverland. As for Peter & Hook… I know the secret most don't. The real truth behind the myth. The hidden wonder you've never known disguised as the notorious legend. I know the nightmare that brings Hook to his knees. The inescapable reality Peter Pan one day couldn't fly away from. All you've ever been told is a lie. A hoax. A pixie trick. I know the truth because… I'm their ruin. I'm their demise. I'm the end of what was & the beginning of what's to come. My name is Wendy Moira Angela Darling, & I'm the reason for losing Neverland. Praise for Losing Neverland: Losing Neverland will keep you saying, 'just one more chapter,' until you finally finish! This book is insane in the best way. It’s twisted and devastatingly beautiful. Passionate, obsessive, & emotional. I'm a huge fan of retellings, a huge fan of dark romance, a huge fan of anti-heroes, & boy this one had all three! I wish that I could reread this book for the first time, it was so good! WOW! I could NOT put this book down! It was a rollercoaster ride. This book is dark, twisted, unique, and beautiful. It’s a dark romance, but it's also a beautiful second-chance romance. I ate this up so quickly I already miss it! What I would give to be able to read this for the first time again! Losing Neverland gets all the stars!!! This is your sign to go by this book right now. Growing up, Peter Pan was always one of my favorite fairytales. Let me tell you, the story gets better with age and the adult version. I absolutely could not put this book down. Like I refused to cook dinner and made the kids order pizza couldn't put it down. Wendy and Peter are so amazing and the spice between these two, holy cow! This dual POV is dark, sexy, and it hits all the right spots. I DO NOT even know where to begin with the absolute perfection Losing Neverland is! I never want to watch a single Peter Pan movie or the cartoon because I want this story to be Peter and Wendy's real story!!! 'Everything. That’s my favorite part.' Truer words were never spoken. I read this book three times. Three in a row. And each time I was just as sucked into the story as the first. More so actually as this is one of those books that the more times you read it, the more you find it blows your mind. The symbolism in this book is astounding. The twists are different in that they are revealed early. The love is a timeless, tragic, beautifully happy love story that will absolutely leave you coming back again… and again… and again.
