Mallory and McKayla bring a unique perspective on the topic as Cofounders of WIID, but also as the next generation of successful designers working in our industry. The question we will explore today is how might we empower the next generation of women designers in our field? We will chat with Mallory and McKayla about the great work that WIID is doing, and how they are helping the ID field. They will provide some actionable advice for women on everything from searching for your first job, to what you can do if you find yourself in an uncomfortable work situation.     08 - Building a Brand from Scratch | Larry Parker | Rivian

    It is said that a company’s brand exists in the minds of the consumer, the company can only do its best to influence that image. I love this interpretation because it means brands can’t just talk about what they believe is right, but also have to live it through their actions, products and services. Companies should make their products and actions speak for the brand as much as a tagline or advertisement. Authenticity is a buzz word, but I believe it’s for good reason.  So how do you create a brand from scratch that has meaning and hits the right cord with consumers--especially in todays crowded marketplace. Today on Exploded View, we are going to talk to my friend Larry Parker, Designer Director at Rivian Automotive and learn how he helped develop the Rivian brand from scratch.     06 - Liminality | Joey Ruiter | JRuiter Design

    Today on Exploded View, we are joined by Joey Ruiter, an Industrial Designer who in his own words, "pushes the boundaries of the norm to transform everyday objects into products that are as useful as they are jaw-dropping”. His vehicles are currently on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design. He has also designed for brands like Herman Miller and Steelcase. Today we will be talking about Liminality, a point of transition which we all find ourselves faced with in the year 2020. Joey will also talk to us about why that first moment counts when presenting new ideas to clients, and why it’s so important for designers to find their own aesthetic.     In the corporate and freelancing world, we are all doing our best to keep things moving along as seamless as possible in 2020. That includes running workshops, brainstorms and innovation sessions--but in a completely new way, virtually. So welcome to part 2 of the Exploded View series on Innovation workshops. We are so lucky to have Laura Leenhouts, Innovation Manager at Newell Brands. She has been running a ton of virtual innovation workshops since the beginning of the pandemic for brands like Sharpie, Rubbermaid, Graco, and more. Among many things, she is a master facilitator and skilled at guiding a room full of people towards their end goal.
