    On today’s F.A.CT.S. podcast, host Kevin sits with Dr. Kirk “Jae” James who is a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Silver. Jae was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, during a period of political and social unrest. He would ultimately migrate to the United States at ten years old with his mother in search of a better life. In 2013, Jae completed a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice titled “The Invisible Epidemic: Educating Social Work Students towards Holistic Practice in a Period of Mass Incarceration.” As a professor at NYU, he utilizes his firsthand knowledge and research to educate, train, and work with governments, community-based organizations, social workers, and advocates with social justice agendas throughout America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Jae believes education is our greatest tool for liberation and social justice. In this episode, we are going to share some unique rooms that social workers found themselves in and the journey of entering the profession.     On today’s F.A.CT.S. podcast, host Kevin sits with Angelica Hill is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), who earned her Bachelors in Social Work from York College and earned her Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. Shortly after graduating from Fordham, Angelica took her LMSW licensure exam which has opened up an avenue of opportunities for her such as working remotely as a therapist for two agencies. Angelica's target clientele has been those who are diagnosed with ADHD, depression and anxiety. Angelica specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT.) CBT is a form of talk therapy Angelica utilizes with her clients to help encourage them to become aware of irrational, negative thoughts/behaviors and how to challenge these with more positive thoughts/behaviors to improve overall mental health and quality of life. Angelica is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounded by mental health and ensuring equal mental health access for all. In her free time, Angelica enjoys spending time with and traveling with her family, whether it's a weekend getaway in the mountains or a tropical destination. Starks’ exposure to limited resources and inadequate school systems caused her to see the dangers of social injustices within the black community.     On today’s F.A.CT.S. podcast, host Kevin talks with Alison O Jordan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is internationally recognized for training and expertise in technical assistance with over 40 years in senior government, executive management, program development, and direct service experience. Alison worked on several projects such as the Workforce initiative that links people in PR with HIV to healthcare as well as addressing housing and employment needs using the TCC NYC model. She also has several publications and works as an adjunct professor at Hofstra University, School of Health Professions. In 2020, she and her partner Jackie Cruzado, formed ACOJA Consulting, which is a New York City certified minority and women owned business looking to open doors and make a difference.
