Nirantar Radio introduces a new show featuring F-Rated conversations aka, Feminist Rated Conversations. 10 years ago, F-Rating was created to help classify films which are written or directed by one or more female film-makers, or feature complex female characters who contribute significantly to the story. But what if ‘feminist’ is not a noun but an adjective? What if the feminist lens lends itself to all practices and not only film-making?     In this special feature of the F-Rated Interview, The Third Eye's Shabani Hassanwalia interviews SIG, who claims to have what everybody in the world is looking for: the secret to peace. In the world of kink, where sexual norms are there to be challenged, bent, and played with, SIG's practice is that of submission.   The collective that SIG co-founded in 2011 is Kinky Collective, which is a non-funded group which seeks to raise awareness about kink in society as well as to strengthen the community in India. Their vision is for India to be a safer and sexier place for everyone without any judgement or marginalization. 11 years ago, F-Rating was created to help classify films which are written or directed by one or more female film-makers, or feature complex female characters who contribute significantly to the story. But what if ‘feminist’ is not a noun but an adjective? What if the feminist lens lends itself to all practices and not only film-making?     Suneeta Prajapati: The Joys of Reporting Crime

    In the finale episode of Season 1 of the  F-Rated Interview, Suneeta takes us through her childhood in the mining town of Mahoba where she went from reading whatever scraps of newspaper she could find to becoming an award-winning journalist with Khabar Lahariya. For Suneeta, crime reporting is a source of great pleasure as she gets to look powerful people in the eye, and ask them questions. Suneeta Prajapati started working with Khabar Lahariya as an 18 year-old in 2012, and is now the operations manager at Chambal Academy where she trains and empowers young girls from rural areas to use the feminist lens to cover stories and issues that affect them. Over the years, Suneeta has taken on the nexus between politicians, media and mining contractors, tracked the debilitating violence against women in UP, and covered local and national elections.  10 years ago, F-Rating was created to help classify films which are written or directed by one or more female film-makers, or feature complex female characters who contribute significantly to the story.     Safina Nabi: Reporting Outside the Newsroom

    In this episode, Safina narrates bitter-sweet experiences of reporting within one's own community and listening to women who are so rarely heard by anyone, let alone the mainstream media. Having found her feet in freelance journalism without giving in to the temptations of sensational breaking news, she states how free she feels when she is not bound by the editorial processes and policies of the newsroom. Safina Nabi is a full-time, independent multimedia journalist from South Asia based in Kashmir. She writes about gender, health, human rights, social justice, development, and the environment. She negotiates quid pro quo with local reporters and highlights the importance of slow and quiet questions even (and especially) when hordes of reporters are covering one story. Nidhi Suresh is a freelance journalist who has previously reported for Newslaundry and Deutsche Welle. After reporting in Kashmir for a year, she completed her Masters in conflict studies and human rights from Utrecht University, Netherlands.
