Starting Over: Trusting, Loving & Rebuilding Again

What happens when life asks you to start over after you thought you already did the healing? In this episode of Facing the Mirror, we’re talking about the exhaustion nobody puts on the inspirational quotes. The exhaustion of rebuilding after heartbreak, betrayal, loss, illness, identity shifts, or realizing you have somehow found yourself inside another version of the same relationship. Starting over does not automatically mean you failed. Sometimes it means you finally became unwilling to keep betraying yourself just to preserve something familiar. We’ll explore why we repeat painful relationship patterns, how the nervous system can confuse familiarity with safety, and why limerence, intensity, longing, and chemistry can feel like love without actually being evidence of compatibility or intimacy. But we’re not stopping at what someone else did to you. We’re asking the harder questions: What did I ignore? What did I participate in?What kept me there? What was I hoping this person would finally give me?What am I actually grieving? And what am I responsible for changing now? Because accountability is not blame. It is where you get your power back. We also explore the identities we build around being the fixer, rescuer, strong one, peacemaker, caretaker, or person who forgives everything. Sometimes rebuilding your life feels like losing yourself because the version of you that survived the old life cannot be the version that creates the next one.

The Anxious-Avoidant Trap: The Shadow of Intimacy

Why do anxious and avoidant people seem to find each other over and over again? It is easy to reduce the anxious-avoidant dynamic to one person chasing and the other person running. But underneath that cycle is something much deeper: two nervous systems trying to protect themselves from different versions of the same thing: intimacy that does not feel completely safe. In this episode of Facing the Mirror, Christina Stuller looks beyond attachment labels and into the shadow underneath the anxious-avoidant relationship. We explore the anxious shadow of over-functioning, people-pleasing, reassurance-seeking, and trying to control connection through closeness. We also look at the avoidant shadow of emotional distancing, hyper-independence, shutting down, and controlling vulnerability through withdrawal. And here is where the conversation gets uncomfortable. Knowing your attachment style does not excuse what you do with it. "I have anxious attachment" does not give you permission to violate boundaries, demand constant reassurance, monitor someone, or make another person responsible for regulating you. "I am avoidant" does not give you permission to disappear, stonewall, withhold communication, or punish someone with emotional distance. Your attachment wounds may explain the survival strategy. They do not remove your responsibility for healing it. The real work begins when we stop asking, "Why are they doing this to me?" long enough to ask: What happens inside of me when intimacy activates the parts of myself I have not learned how to face? Because sometimes the relationship is not only showing you who the other person is. It is showing you where you still abandon yourself. 🎙️ Facing the Mirror with Christina Stuller Tranquil Balance Life Coaching🌐 https://healingmyfeelings.com📝 https://stulleram.blog Topics discussed: attachment styles, anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, anxious-avoidant relationships, shadow work, intimacy, abandonment wounds, emotional regulation, relationship patterns, people-pleasing, hyper-independence, self-awareness, boundaries, radical acceptance, and personal accountability. The Addiction You Don’t Call Addiction

Why do intelligent, self-aware people keep going back to relationships that are clearly hurting them? Why does letting go feel less like a decision and more like withdrawal? In this episode of Facing the Mirror, Christina explores the striking similarities between substance addiction and toxic relationship patterns. From dopamine highs and intermittent reinforcement to love addiction, codependency, and the deep fear of being alone, this episode breaks down the science and psychology behind why we become attached to people who both soothe and wound us. Christina explains how addiction is often not about weakness or lack of willpower, but about disconnection. Whether you are obsessively checking your ex’s social media, staying in a trauma bond, or using work, substances, or validation to numb emotional pain, the underlying wound is often the same: unbearable loneliness. This episode challenges the outdated “just leave” mentality and offers a more compassionate and honest perspective on healing. Because the goal is not simply to stop the behavior. The goal is to understand what pain the behavior has been helping you avoid. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why toxic relationships activate the same reward pathways as substance addictionHow intermittent reinforcement creates trauma bondsWhy loneliness and disconnection fuel addictive patternsWhat Portugal discovered about treating addiction through connection rather than punishmentHow to begin healing from codependency, love addiction, and emotional dependencyIf you’ve ever wondered why you keep returning to what hurts you, this episode will help you understand that your patterns are not proof that you are broken, they are evidence that your nervous system found a way to survive.
