I fell in love with Vaporwave from day one back in that late winter day of 2015.
I'd have to say Luxury Elite is one of my go tos.
But as for this specific podcast I like it very much and I'm not a huge podcast guy in general. (Judgement Free Zone it's just my tastes are all over)
I like the relaxed, conversational tone and the amount of research that goes into it.
The installment concerning MySpace deleting all that music touched a nerve for me because more recently Metacafe (which was around before YouTube became inactive and granted I never came across too much in the way of Vaporwave on Metacafe but I was a content creator myself (thankfully I'm on Odysee too) so to see my collective body of work gone like a thief in the night was a little disheartening.
But more importantly there was so much archival material on that platform ranging from gaming to crypto, politics to spirituality, science, music instruction, you name it.
There were a lot of great content creators I followed like this health and fitness channel. As well there were other channels I followed who were still producing new content.
And from a nostalgic perspective the whole aesthetic had a retro 2007/2008 look, right down to the clickbait ads with the ginormous thunbnails lol.
So yes I do agree that there is an element of danger in that so many songs, videos, entire genres-things that could be considered a part of the cultural legacy in certain cases-can be erased with a click due to possibly carelessness, malfeasance or I have a sneaking suspicion it's in sone cases "move fast and break things" strikes again and having worked for two start ups I can tell you that's actually not always the best policy.
But to conclude this novella he's totally right that we as a collective should be mire proactive in preserving these gems be it vaporwave, chillwave, videos in general, artwork or what have you and it should exist in a way that exists independent of any platform that could cease to be because it's no longer commercially profitable because as he proved in the episode Wayback Machine only gets you so far...
