Farming with Science is a collection of science-based educational interviews in agriculture and natural resources developed by educators (also referred to as County agents) from the University of Florida IFAS Extension. This project aspires to improve the understanding of agricultural practices, promote science-based practice adoption, and increase the awareness of how the food that we eat gets to our table. At the same time we promote sound decision-making by farmers and ranchers to positively impact their communities and the ecosystems where they reside in Florida.

    "The label is the law": a phrase that is very common to hear from agriculture professionals, which means that it is our responsibility to understand and follow the directives written in the label of a specific pesticide we intend to use.     Using hydroponic systems in STEM teaching at home - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are disciplines essential for developing critical thinking skills that will open many developmental opportunities for our youth. Incorporating hydroponic systems as a special project, demonstration, or just for basic gardening can provide opportunities for children to get hands-on experiences that can broaden their horizons when exploring careers in agriculture and science, chemistry, and other fields.     Farming with Science 7 - Evaluating the reproductive capacity of rams and bucks

    The Farming with Science crew talks about performing a reproductive evaluation for our small ruminant sires. Bucks and rams are extremely important to our sheep and goat farming industry. They should be in top shape before the breeding season starts to ensure that they can sire our herd. For this reason Dr. Cabrera talks in detail about the importance of a breeding soundness exam and potential issues that producers can avoid by early monitoring males ensuring that they are in good reproductive capacity.
