DNOW2024: The Command of Abiding — John 15:1-17

 

• Abiding Leads to LOVE

• God expects His followers to love others the way He loves His followers.

 

1. The command flows from ABIDING (vv. 12, 17)

2. The command is a high BAR (v. 13)

3. The command puts you IN THE PLAN (vv. 14-16)

4. The command is LOOKING for specific fruit (v. 16)

GOD'S STORY: If, Then — 1 Samuel 4:1-11; 7:1-12

 

• God pours out His blessing on the repentant.

 

1. Rebellious action against God carries CONSEQUENCES. (vv. 4:1-3)

2. We cannot expect God to BLESS our rebellion. (vv. 4:3-11)

3. God pours out His BLESSING on the REPENTANT. (vv. 7:1-12)

            • Awareness and Ownership

            • Confession before God

            • Turn to God, take action, and live for Him

• The faithfulness of God is discovered through faith-stretching circumstances. 

 

1. God sees in us what we have a hard time seeing in OURSELVES. (vv. 6:11-21)

2. Discovering God’s will for our lives begins by LISTENING to His voice. (vv. 6:22-24)

3. The adventure of following God begins in our HOME. (vv. 6:25-32)

4. As we depend upon the Lord, GOD reveals His FAITHFULNESS. (vv. 6:33 - 7:25)

1. GOD ALONE provides hope to the hopeless. (vv. 1-14)

2. SAVING FAITH is evidenced through faith-filled action. (vv. 15-24)

3. God desires to use your REDEEMED life to point others to Him. (Matthew 1:1-6)

     • God’s Presence

     • God’s Promise

     • God’s Power

     • God’s Precepts

2. By God’s GRACE, do the next RIGHT THING. (vv. 10-15)

3. God gives great ENCOURAGEMENT through His people. (vv. 16-18)

• The presence and power of God strengthen us to live victorious lives.

 


God graciously gives His people life-giving INSTRUCTION. (vv. 1-5)
God gives the VICTORY and calls us to actively FIGHT. (vv. 2-3, 5, 25)
Our Warning: Don’t be ensnared by the things that turn your heart AWAY from God. (vv. 4, 16, 25-26)
Our How: God’s LOVE and PROMISE. God’s POWER. God’s PRESENCE. Faith Empowered ACTION. (vv. 6-25)
