Plato, Olivia Rodrigo and the existential crisis of modern love

I need to vent about a major pet peeve of mine: the English language is doing us dirty when it comes to love. The fact that we use the exact same word to describe our relationship with our best friend, our partner, and a literal slice of pizza is wild. No wonder we’re all having an existential crisis. In this episode, we’re unpacking how this linguistic trap messes with how we view connection, and we’re going on a bit of a global deep dive into how other languages actually get it right. Then, we’re bringing in the ultimate chaotic guest list of ancient Greek philosophers, modern thinkers, and Olivia Rodrigo to figure out what the actual purpose of love is anyway. By looking at Olivia's song "The Cure" through an amantoromantic lens, we’re putting friendship love up against romantic love to see which one really holds us together. In the end, we’re stringing all of this together to settle on a modern philosophy of love that finally explains everything. Trust me, it’s pure genius. In this episode, we discuss: The linguistic etymology of the word "love" around the world Ancient Greek philosophy on love (Eros vs. Philia) Amantoromanticism and challenging the romance hierarchy Olivia Rodrigo's track "The Cure" and relationship dynamics Friendship love vs. romantic love in modern society Follow me on socials Podcast: insta - @femalegenius pod | tiktok - @femalegenius Personal: insta - @jesiakinsuyi | tiktok - @jesiloves | youtube- @jesiloves

Digital Oversharing as a Symptom of Loneliness

Why are we currently narrating our most harrowing breakups or the intimate details of a bad meal to 100,000 strangers before we have even called a real life friend? In this episode I am probing the digital overshare not as a simple personality trait but as a glaring hallmark of a generation navigating a profound lack of true connection. We dive deep into the biological drivers that make us crave being witnessed and how that survival instinct translates into the bizarre behavioral phenomena we see on our feeds every day. I also get brutally honest about the current state of friendship and how it has somehow become more complicated and strict and frankly tiring than ever before. We even ponder whether we are heading toward a future where AI is the only thing left to mediate our connections and whether an AI boyfriend is actually a viable solution or just a sign of the end times. From the psychology of the GRWM breakdown to the ethics of digital intimacy this episode is a jam packed and deeply intimate look at why we share so much yet feel so alone. It is quite literally pure genius. What Happens When You’re Not Special Anymore?

If you were the “gifted kid,” this episode might hurt a little. Let’s talk about post-graduation burnout, achievement-based identity, and what happens when you don’t feel special anymore. This episode started with two things: my deep love for Challengers (and my obsession with Tashi Duncan) and the very real conversations I’ve been having with friends as we finish our degrees and step into the… slightly terrifying blank canvas of the real world. For so many of us who were labelled “gifted,” “bright,” or “full of potential” growing up, achievement becomes part of our identity. School gives you structure, validation, gold stars, and a clear sense of where you stand. But what happens when that system disappears? In this episode I explore post-graduation burnout, why high-achieving people often struggle with identity once traditional success markers disappear, and what neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy have to say about it. Using some conceptual analogies, TV and film references (yes, Challengers), and a few chaotic pop-culture side quests, I try to understand why this stage of life can feel so destabilising and how we might approach it with more joy, curiosity, wonder, and a little bit of whimsy. Because here’s something I really believe: you don’t stop being special just because you don’t feel special anymore. Expect side notes, Marvel references, neuroscience, existential tangents, and a little bit of classic Female Genius chaos. Follow Me on Socials!!
