Are You Resisting God? | Acts 7:1-60

Stephen stood before the very council that condemned Jesus to death. Instead of defending himself, he boldly proclaimed the gospel. In this verse-by-verse study of Acts 7, we walk through Stephen’s powerful sermon—the longest recorded sermon in the book of Acts. By tracing the lives of Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and Israel’s history, Stephen reveals a sobering pattern: God continually calls His people to Himself, yet they continually resist Him. The same warning applies today. It’s possible to know the Bible, attend church faithfully, and still resist the work of the Holy Spirit. This message challenges us to examine our own hearts and ask: Where am I resisting what God is calling me to do? In this sermon you’ll discover: Why Stephen chose to preach instead of defend himself. How Abraham, Joseph, and Moses all point to Jesus. Why God cannot be confined to a building or religious tradition. The danger of loving religion more than Christ. The difference between conviction and condemnation. How to respond when the Holy Spirit is calling you to repentance.Whether you’re new to Christianity or have followed Jesus for years, this passage is a powerful reminder that God desires surrendered hearts more than religious routines. The Heart of the Matter | Ananias, Sapphira, and the Danger of a Divided Heart (Acts 4:32–5:11)

What does God really care about—your money or your heart? In this verse-by-verse study of Acts 4:32–5:11, Pastor Nick Wyss explores one of the most sobering passages in the New Testament: the account of Ananias and Sapphira. While this story involves money, possessions, and giving, the real issue is much deeper. The problem was never the amount they gave—it was the condition of their hearts. The early church was united in “one heart and one soul,” marked by generosity, sacrifice, and devotion to Jesus. In contrast, Ananias and Sapphira allowed pride, deception, and a desire for appearances to take root in their hearts. Their story serves as a powerful warning that God sees beyond outward actions and looks directly at the heart. In this message, you’ll discover: • Why Acts 5 is not primarily about money • The contrast between Barnabas and Ananias & Sapphira • What true biblical generosity looks like • Why God cares more about your heart than your possessions • The danger of hypocrisy and spiritual deception • How money often reveals what we truly treasure • What it means to have a heart fully surrendered to God • Why the early church experienced great power and great grace Whether you’re struggling with trust, generosity, pride, or simply want to grow deeper in your walk with Christ, this message will challenge you to examine the condition of your heart before the Lord. Scripture: Acts 4:32–5:11 (ESV) Fervent Church meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM in Hutto, Texas. Learn more at fervent.church.
