    Trump’s $10 Billion BBC Lawsuit Just Got Awkward

    The BBC screwed up. In a documentary about January 6, it spliced together different parts of Donald Trump’s speech in a way that created a misleading impression. The BBC apologized. Trump sued. Then he demanded $10 billion in damages. That’s where the story gets much more interesting. Because once you put a $10 billion price tag on reputational harm, you don’t just get to say you were wronged. You have to show the damage. What did you lose? What changed? And how does it add up to $10 billion? Trump wanted the BBC held accountable for what it did. Now the legal process may require him to prove exactly what the BBC did to him. Accountability works both ways.

    The Court Said NO. The Kennedy Center Board Did It Anyway.

    A federal judge ruled that only Congress can change the name of the Kennedy Center. The Trump name came down. You might think that would have ended it. Instead, the Kennedy Center Board voted again, this time approving a new inscription crediting President Donald Trump with restoring and renovating the building, even though the renovation is being funded with $257 million in congressionally approved federal taxpayer dollars. So is this a clever legal workaround, or something much worse? This week's Worst isn't just about Donald Trump.     $20 Million for ICE Shock Gloves, With No Clear Rules?

    ICE is preparing to spend as much as $20 million in taxpayer dollars on thousands of electrified gloves designed to shock people into compliance. But there’s a much bigger question: What are the rules for using them? Right now, ICE has a general use-of-force policy, but no specific publicly identified rules governing when these gloves can be activated, how long someone can be shocked, or what happens when their use crosses the line. The manufacturer itself warns against using the gloves for verbal defiance or punishment and advises against prolonged shocks. And a lawsuit in Kentucky raises even more serious questions after a 43-year-old man allegedly was shocked 27 times with the gloves, along with 13 Taser deployments. The glove shocks have not been established as the cause of his death. If ICE wants another use-of-force weapon, the public should know the rules before the gloves go on. What training will officers receive? When is shocking someone justified? How will activations be audited? And what happens when the electronic record doesn’t match an officer’s use-of-force report? This isn’t about whether ICE officers should be able to protect themselves. It’s about how much power government agents should have to inflict serious bodily harm without clear, transparent limits.
