In episode 177 of Film Focus, I return to my Hopes and Fears series this time discussing the highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The hype for this film has been rising a lot in recent months and has reached a new pitch recently with the announcement of Keanu Reeves set to voice Shadow the Hedgehog. A lot could go right with this sequel, but there is also a lot that could go wrong. So join me as I list a few of my hopes and fears for the upcoming Sonic film.

In episode 176 of Film Focus, I review the latest film in the Monsterverse in the form of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It seems like the hype surrounding all things Godzilla has reached new heights in the last few months with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters bringing kaiju action and human stories to TV, while Godzilla Minus One made a big splash over here in the West and even won an Oscar. So now you have the follow-up to Godzilla vs. Kong which from the trailers seems to be doubling down on the action, spectacle and Hollow Earth material.

In episode 172 of Film Focus, I give you my favourite films from 2023. This has been another interesting year for films and while I don't think it reached the heights of 2022 in terms of the variety of films I enjoyed, there were certainly some bangers that could be appreciated. Crafting this top 10 was one of the easier ones I've done as most of my entries were set in stone from my first viewing, though some changes were made towards the end of the year.
