After an out-of-control money addiction cost him nearly everything, Matthew Grishman hit rock bottom and was faced with a critical decision: make massive changes to how he was living his life - OR - die broke and alone.

Matthew chose change. But he also knew he could not make this change on his own. Fortunately Matthew met a man who was willing and able to help him begin a new lifelong journey of making amends with the three most challenging relationships in his life; his relationship with money, his relationship with people, and his relationship with self.

Financial Sobriety is the path and curriculum Matthew and that man, Jim Gebhardt, (now his business partner and dear friend) developed to help others become much more intentional with those same three complex and interconnected relationships: money, people, and self. This podcast takes listeners through the steps, sequence and strategies Matthew used to recover and find true wealth. It is designed to help you, the listener, do the same in a very safe, informal, conversational, and somewhat tutorial step by step way. Matthew and Jim share stories and invite guests on to the show to support the success and evolution of this life-saving journey called Financial Sobriety.

True wealth is about so much more than having a lot of money, or having a lot of stuff - it's about being 100% intentional with your three most intimate and complicated relationships in life: money, people, and self.

Episode 122: Bonds Are Back! Let's Start With Why.

Join your hosts, Jim Gebhardt and Matthew Grishman as they explore the resurgence of bonds as an investment option with a semblance stability and fixed returns.
This episode illuminates the allure of bonds in an era where traditional real estate investments encounter the challenges of the former zero-interest rate environment. The guys unpack the quest for value that transcends monetary gains, and sets the tone for rediscovering the enduring appeal of bonds. As the conversation dissects the pulse of the real estate market, you'll gain an understanding of how managing property portfolios amidst an ever-shifting economic landscape may give way to consideration of selling in a presumed lower tax situation.

With the money market well covered in the conversation, it tees up the logical next step and that is to scrutinize the bond market's ebbs and flows and why the bond market may be a good option for repositioning assets. There is a psychology behind investment trends and the art of timing one's exit from money markets before diminishing returns set in is often done too late.

Getting real

Love this show. And there’s much more to it than money.
They say the best stories are the ones are the most authentic, often where people are most vulnerable, where we can identify with the storyteller.
There’s lots of that here. Matt, in particular, is a great coach and author.
Well worth a listen.

Real talk about finances that you actually want to listen to

After binge-listening to the first four episodes I’m officially a fan. My husband as been trying to tell me this stuff for years but for the first time it didn’t sound like someone was speaking a foreign language when explaining financial fundamentals. Already looking forward to the next episodes!
