    Ep 6.28 Let's Agree to Disagree on This (pt. 2)

    This is another really full episode and it’s on the longer side but it’s really good. There’s not a dull moment. I’ve highlighted some points below. I’m talking more about the book, “Notes on Being a Man,” by Scott Galloway. The book looks at what many men are experiencing today through a lens that says, “It’s not your fault, but the world changed and no one gave you the software update, so here’s a book that might help.” I challenge some of the ideas and agree with others. That’s life, sometimes we see things the same way and other times we don’t. Depends on the lens you’re looking through. It’s a fun perspective, not a review of the book but I use the book as inspiration for this conversation.     Let's Agree to Disagree on This (Pt. 1) This episode is full, and if you’ve been having the male–female “agree to disagree” conversation, whether in your own head or with someone you saw online or actually in real life, this is a layered discussion. I bring it up because I’m currently reading Notes on Being a Man by Scott Galloway. From the title, you might expect a self-development or philosophical book, but to me it reads more like a memoir or autobiography. Whether I liked it or not isn’t the point. What matters is that it got me thinking, and that’s what stayed with me. The book looks at what many men are experiencing today through a lens that says, “It’s not your fault, but the world changed and no one gave you the software update, so here’s a book that might help.” In this episode, I focus less on reviewing the book and more on the thoughts it stirred up for me, breaking down some of the dynamics that got us here. The situation isn’t solely the fault of men or women. It’s a shared responsibility to move things forward in a healthier direction. Because the future we create depends on all of us, so we gotta these kids come behind us ready to either undo or sharpen what we’ve unconsciously evolved to. It’s a continuation of the “hard work” discussion.  We continue the conversation from Episode 15, where the focus was on the part of success stories that usually gets skipped or softened once people “make it.” This episode questions whether hard work alone actually explains success, or if there are other forces at play that don’t show up in interviews, bios, or highlight reels. The discussion reframes success stories by looking at what people tend to forget, minimize, or unintentionally rewrite once they’re on the other side. We examine why so many hardworking people never reach the outcomes they expect, while others do, even when effort looks similar on the surface. The episode introduces a clear framework for understanding success that goes beyond effort, including elements people rarely name out loud. There’s a simplification of Imposter Syndrome, making it easier to understand without clinical language or self-diagnosis. The episode explores how comparison quietly distorts perception, especially when you’re measuring yourself against someone else’s edited version of their journey.
