Finding Emo

Found these guys in a super odd way. On a road trip this week I asked Siri to play the album “Five Score and Seven Years Ago” by Relient K and it randomly threw on the episode they reviewed! Former church kid here in my ancient late 30s - these guys scratch an itch I didn’t realize I had! Someone on Reddit posted they learned about The Everglow from this podcast, so I SPRINTED to find it since I’ve been a MAE fanatic since early 2000s. Listening to them revisit some of my favorite albums has been a blast. Their analysis is particularly insightful because of their musician backgrounds and experience in the genre. It’s been delightful hearing them point out little parts of recordings I’d never noticed before. Since I’ve left the church, I also appreciate their nonjudgmental, irreverent approach to the religious themes of some of the music. They have faith, but they aren’t uptight or preachy about it. They have so many of the conversations I’ve longed to have with people who understood the nuance/context of these albums/songs (for example: thoughts on Faking My Own Suicide in the year 2025 - priceless…I loved it). You can hear genuine friendship and they have solid chemistry together. Thank you to random Redditor that shared this and grateful to the guys for producing it! It’s been a bright spot during dark times.

I’m so glad there are new episodes coming out! I found this podcast during a lengthy hiatus, and was sad to reach the end, but am so happy there are more episodes coming! This podcast is exactly what I needed- reliving the golden era of music. My only beef is the BRUTAL review of my favorite Jimmy Eat World song, Night Drive. Absolutely savage 😂
