How I Stay Fit With No Routine — Real Strategies for an Unpredictable Life

Most fitness advice assumes you have a routine. Sarah doesn't — and most of us don't, not really. As a cabin manager working unpredictable airline shifts, home reserves, and airport standbys, Sarah's "schedule" can change in five hours. This episode is about what actually works when you can't plan your week, let alone your day. Sarah unpacks the non-negotiables that keep her on track no matter where she lands: the breakfast and lunch rule, why she stopped relying on motivation, and how she navigates hotel menus without giving up. She talks about light movement when you're too exhausted to train, being kind to yourself on rest days without going completely off the rails, and why small consistencies always outperform perfect routines. In this episode: Why "flexible consistency" beats the perfect routine every time The non-negotiables: breakfast + lunch you control, dinner you adapt Hotel food survival — how to make menus work for you Light movement on exhausted days (walks, easy cycling, swims) When to push and when to genuinely rest Sarah's post-surgery recovery and her slow return to training Why you should stop comparing your real life to social media fitness This one's for shift workers, busy parents, frequent travellers, perimenopausal women juggling everything, and anyone who's ever felt like a "real routine" is permanently out of reach. When Even Disciplined Women Lose Their Edge — The 2026 Comeback Episode Every Burnt-Out High-Performer Needs

In this raw, deeply honest episode of Fit2Lead, Sarah Woodcock returns to work after a month off recovering from an operation — and pulls back the curtain on what happens when even the most disciplined, structured women suddenly lose their edge. After years of being the person who never missed a session, planned every meal, and thrived on routine, Sarah opens up about the disorientating experience of watching her motivation, focus and structure quietly disappear. She describes it like a light switch being flipped off — no warning, no explanation. This is an honest conversation about what really happens when life, hormones and recovery collide with high expectations, and the quiet, unglamorous way back that actually works. From adjusting instead of quitting, to simplifying food prep down to a single day, to escaping the social media comparison spiral, Sarah shares the small sustainable steps rebuilding her edge — and invites listeners to do the same. 🔑 EPISODE TOPICS (from Transcript Only) Sarah heading back to work after a month off recovering from an operation What happens when disciplined, structured people suddenly lose their edge Fitness as her anchor for managing stress and staying in control Never missing a session — until suddenly she couldn't The "light switch flipped off" feeling: motivation, focus and structure disappearing Hormones, life and recovery all catching up at once Not letting go completely — adjusting instead of quitting Taking it day by day instead of weekly planning Simplifying meal prep (sometimes just a supermarket salad with added protein) Stripped-back training: walking the dogs, light cycling, gradual return Returning to BFT studio with no pressure, one or two sessions a week "Anything small is better than doing nothing at all" Why social media sends disciplined women into a comparison spiral Suddenly comparing herself when she normally never does Feeling like a failure for not training Why no personal trainer or food plan works without YOU being invested Finding ONE small thing for you, not anyone else The hidden cost of being too structured (becoming a control freak) The wake-up call to loosen the grip a little "You don't need to be at your best to keep moving forward" "Stay connected to the version of you that doesn't quit" See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Realities of Flying for Crew, Passengers and Everyone In Between

In this episode of Fit to Lead, I dive into the real, unfiltered truth about flying — not just for passengers, but for us as crew. There’s a huge expectation that we should be perfect all day, every day: perfect grooming, perfect energy, perfect customer service, even when we’re exhausted, stressed, hungry, or dealing with challenges you’ll never see from the cabin. I share what it truly feels like from the moment I step out of my car — when the uniform goes on and the “smile” switch clicks in — to the pressure of maintaining that standard for a full 11–12 hour day with multiple sectors, minimal rest, and no guaranteed breaks. I talk about the physical demands, the emotional load we carry, and the expectations passengers often have that don’t always match the realities of aviation. I also open up about the moments you don’t see: de-escalating tense situations, dealing with rude or overwhelmed passengers, navigating limited catering, cleaning the aircraft between flights, losing sleep on trips, and trying to stay professional even when someone is shouting in your face. At the same time, I share why I still love this job — the privilege of leading my crew, helping people travel safely, and creating moments of kindness and connection in the middle of chaos. Whether you’re crew or a frequent flyer, I hope this episode gives you a whole new understanding of the human side of aviation — and why kindness, respect and compassion go a long way on both sides.
