The Hidden Risks in Your Supply Chain with David Williams

Connecting the Dots: Finance, Supply Chain & Cybersecurity with David Williams What happens when you combine accounting, supply chain experience, risk management, and cybersecurity? In this episode of The Flex Forward Podcast, Nic Espanet talks with governance, risk, and compliance consultant David Williams about the career path that brought all of those areas together. David started his career in accounting after studying economics and becoming a CPA. His move into accounts payable introduced him to procurement, operations, and supply chain management. That experience eventually led to a consulting career focused on supply chain systems, implementation, optimization, and training. More recently, David has expanded his work into governance, risk, compliance, and cybersecurity. He explains why organizations need to think beyond their own systems when protecting their assets. Vendors and suppliers can introduce risks of their own, making third-party risk management an important part of today's business environment. Nic and David also discuss inventory management and why small errors can become much larger problems over time. David shares how cycle counting can help companies identify inventory issues earlier rather than waiting for one large annual count. The conversation then turns to careers and personal growth. David encourages people to understand what they are naturally good at instead of simply following the path other people expect them to take. He discusses aptitude, personality, career changes, and why being great at one job does not automatically mean someone will thrive in management. David is also a strong believer in lifelong learning. He shares how books, podcasts, Udemy, Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, YouTube, and even resources available through local libraries can help people continue building useful skills throughout their careers. David also discusses his current work developing e-learning content around security awareness, human risk management, and AI governance, as well as his plans to continue advancing his GRC knowledge and credentials. David brings together finance, supply chain, security, and risk in a way that shows how seemingly different skills can become powerful when combined.   ------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you a successful business owner or professional with insights to share? Stay Curious, Stay Valuable: Career Lessons from Allen Moffett

What makes someone valuable in a career that never stops changing? For Allen Moffett, two things stand out: stay curious and find ways to be useful. In this episode of The Flex Forward Podcast, Nic Espanet talks with Allen Moffett, a cybersecurity and identity security executive with more than 35 years of experience in the IT industry. Allen shares how his career has evolved from hands-on technology work to leading national and global security teams. He also explains why he recently made a career change that allows him to work more closely with customers, mentor teams, and help organizations solve identity security challenges. Nic and Allen discuss why curiosity can be more important than knowing one specific technology. In cybersecurity, things are always changing. Allen believes professionals need to understand more than the system right in front of them. They need to keep learning, ask questions, and understand the bigger picture. The conversation also turns to an important lesson Allen has learned during his career: take control of your own path. The easy or comfortable choice is not always the right one. Looking back, Allen shares how listening to his own instincts could have helped him make some career decisions differently. Another lesson comes from a simple idea: “be useful.” Allen explains why finding problems that need to be solved and becoming the person who can help solve them can make someone more valuable to an organization—even as AI and other technologies change the workplace. Allen also discusses mentorship, helping the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, moving toward board and advisory roles, and why lifelong learning continues to matter after more than three decades in the industry. About Allen Moffett Allen Moffett is a cybersecurity and identity security executive with more than 35 years of IT experience. He has led national and global teams delivering security solutions and currently serves as a Managing Director at Simeio, where he focuses on strategic customer relationships, customer success, and mentoring delivery teams. Allen also serves on the board of IDCRO, a nonprofit, vendor-agnostic industry organization focused on building a community of identity practitioners and providing independent training and professional development resources.   ------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you a successful business owner or professional with insights to share? From Burnout to Balance: Shalece Daniels on the Power of Rest

From Edge to Ease: How to Reset Your Nervous System in 90 Seconds What if you could move from feeling stressed and revved up to feeling calmer in just 90 seconds? In this episode of The Flex Forward Podcast, Nic Espanet talks with Shalece Daniels, a Rest Strategist and Rest Tech founder, about why real rest is about much more than getting enough sleep. Shalece explains how our nervous system can stay in a high-alert state during a busy workday. Tough meetings, hard conversations, traffic, deadlines, and the everyday pressure of running a business can all make it difficult to slow down. She shares simple ways people can help their bodies downshift, including breathing exercises, grounding techniques, reflexology, and even blowing bubbles. Shalece also shares the personal story that led her to this work. While running a real estate company in Detroit, she experienced the stress of managing properties and serving people who were formerly unhoused or facing financial challenges. The pressure grew even greater during 2020. A trip that was supposed to last three weeks eventually turned into five months in Costa Rica. During that time, Shalece began learning what it really meant to rest, build better systems, and step away from constantly working inside her business. That experience eventually led her to help other entrepreneurs do the same. One practical technique Shalece shares in this episode is simple: inhale for four counts, hold for four counts, and exhale for eight counts. Repeat it three times. It is an easy exercise people can use when they need to slow down and reset. Nic and Shalece also talk about entrepreneurship, burnout, building systems, overcoming setbacks, real estate investing, and Shalece's work developing her Edge to Ease kit. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you a successful business owner or professional with insights to share? Designing Spaces That Work: Maya Moghadam on Creativity, Psychology & Purpose

Designing Spaces That Work: Maya Moghadam on Creativity, Psychology & Purpose What if great interior design isn't simply about making a space look beautiful? What if it can change how people feel, work, live, and interact with the world around them? In this episode of The Flex Forward Podcast, Nic Espanet sits down with Maya Moghadam, founder and CEO of Maya's Design Studio, to talk about interior design, entrepreneurship, creativity, and the power of creating spaces with purpose. Maya shares how growing up around architecture, art, and entrepreneurship helped shape her career from an early age. She later co-founded her first company at 24 and spent 12 years building it before making the major decision to leave everything behind, move to the United States, and start again. Today, Maya's Design Studio provides interior design services for residential, commercial, and senior living spaces. Maya explains how her background in business, interior design, construction, and design psychology allows her to look beyond how a room appears and consider how people will actually use and experience it. Nic and Maya also talk about what happens when a project doesn't go according to plan. Maya shares a real-world example of an unexpected construction problem that initially looked expensive and disruptive. Instead of panicking, she and her team found a creative solution—and turned the problem into one of the client's favorite parts of the home. They also discuss the importance of faith, staying calm during challenges, learning from mentors, understanding different cultures, and becoming an expert in your chosen niche instead of chasing every opportunity. Maya believes interior design should not be viewed simply as a luxury. The spaces where we live and work can affect our comfort, productivity, well-being, and quality of life. About Maya Moghadam Maya Moghadam is the founder and CEO of Maya's Design Studio. Her firm works in residential, commercial, and senior living interior design and provides clients with an integrated approach to design, products, vendors, and project management.
