Flight Suit Friday was a created by a group of Coast Guard Aviators to share stories, discuss the art of search and rescue, and most importantly, to revel in this demanding, yet impossibly rewarding, job.

For any Coasties out there past or present, aviators, sailors, watchstanders - there are tales of heroism and rules of life we can all live by and enjoy listening to. We hope to expand our reach beyond the Mighty 65 as the show goes on.

Hosts: LCDR Kenny Ingram, LCDR Sam Hafensteiner

E44: HAI Finale with CEO Jim Viola

Back with our HAI series! We promise to bring you ALPAT SAR part 2 shortly, but we wanted to close the loop on our trip to HAI headquarters. Sam and Kenny sit down with the CEO of HAI, Mr. Jim Viola Army Colonel (ret). Having flown most Army helicopters and commanded numerous soldiers in the field, Jim speaks about taking that leadership and safety mindset into the civilian world. The group discusses risk vs. gain, how to build a leadership mentality of safety, and Sam tells the story of the worst flyover in history. Our communities have a great deal of overlap, and we are thrilled to have been invited to sit down with some of the greats of civilian aviation over the course of this series. We hope you enjoyed it as well!

Welcome to our first crossover episode! The next few shows will be released in a series of video clips on the HAI website as we sent Sam and Kenny to Washington DC to speak with members of Helicopter Association International. The goal of this series is to better understand the civilian aviation world, get a feel for jobs/opportunities that exist outside of the organization, and ultimately allow both communities to learn better from each other. Part 1 features Chris Hill, the Director of Safety for HAI as well as Abbey Hutter, Executive Director of JSFirm and Jaime Truxal of Aviation Search Group. Enjoy!

    E40: Not a Hobby

We know part one of our CDR Barres episode ended a bit abruptly, we wanted to save the next part as a stand-alone show. We get real on a discussion about our culutre. We as operators have a significant say in our culture, both safety, training, and morale. We operators own it, and on the show we hope we have helped in keeping that fire alive for all of you. Enjoy part 2 with CDR Kevin Barres!

Just found you guys. Really enjoyed the chat with the crew on the Golden Ray case.
Flashback to 72-80 as AD1 at Brooklyn and Astoria. Your guiding the conversation of the crew was spot on to get the real time thoughts and decisions made during SAR.
Keep up the awesome job of bringing what the CG Aviation staff brings to the table. This media is needed and welcomed.
