You Never Get a Second Chance to Make a First Impression

Send us Fan Mail  In today's society, our identities are shaped not only by who we are, but also by how we are seen. As Erving Goffman explains through Impression Management, people carefully present themselves to influence how others perceive them, much like actors performing on a stage. In that same sense, Charles Horton Cooley argued that our self-concept develops through the reflections we imagine in the eyes of others. Whether on social media, at work, or in everyday interactions, we often adjust our behavior to gain acceptance, respect, and credibility. By recognizing these patterns, we can choose authenticity over performance, building trust through character rather than appearance.  The Statement, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression" teaches people that presenting themselves as someone other than their true self is acceptable, and now is the time to flip the script on this narrative. Let's break this saying down using our 3, 2, 1 method 3 - Play a role 2 - Be inconsistent 1 - Act ACT the way the world expects you to act according to predetermined social scripts and stereotypes. Stay in that box you were born in and don't you dare think outside of that box.  This is definitely NOT the path to take if we truly want to see change in the world. Starting today, we are going to change the way we think about this quote. We will no longer recite it or use it as a guide to gain acceptance from others With the help of our co-host Lynn Stewart, we now have a new way to walk, a new way to talk, and a better way to think. Lynn Single-handedly flipped the script on this toxic narrative; when asked how she feels about this saying floating around in society, Lyn acknowledged that there is a bit of truth to this narrative but that it is incomplete in its current form. According to Lynn and contrary to common belief, "First impressions introduce you, but consistency reveals you." And so there it is - the script has been flipped to stand for something more meaningful and gives purpose to the idea that we should stand strong in our own identity and be good people. Now, let's analyze Lynn's new and improved quote using our 3, 2, 1 method 3 - Elevate your Identity 2 - Be YOU 1 - Grow Grow past your pain, your trauma, and the expectations the world has put upon you. YOU are the expert of your own life, YOU decide your identity, and YOU have the right to step into your personal power, your purpose. Thank you, Lynn, for stepping up to the challenge and giving us something we can grow on.  If you are interested in connecting with Lynn, Owner/CEO of Elevated Identity Coaching, her contact information is listed below. Not MY Rapist!!

Send us Fan Mail Let that monster go! The way we use language in everyday speech plays a powerful role in shaping our thought patterns. Through semantics—the meanings we assign to words—we gradually “train” our minds to interpret reality in consistent ways (Lakoff & Johnson, 2003).      For example, repeatedly using absolute terms like “always” or “never” can reinforce rigid thinking, while more flexible language such as “sometimes” or “it seems” encourages openness and cognitive adaptability. Over time, these linguistic habits influence perception, emotional responses, and decision-making, demonstrating that thought is not only expressed through language but also structured by it.        By becoming more intentional with our word choices, we can actively reshape the mental frameworks that guide our beliefs and behaviors. This is true in many other aspects as well; sometimes we even stunt our healing process with the way we speak about our experiences and our trauma, like when we say things like, "My abuser." In fact, if we break "My Rapist" / "My Abuser" down using our 3,2,1 method, we may develop a different perspective: 3 - He's my rapist / my abuser 2- He's MINE 1- Forever Conceptualizing the individual who violated you with the words, "MY rapist/abuser," you subconsciously brand yourself with their existence. Without even realizing it, you allow this individual to remain a part of your story.  And although they were at some point, a part of your story, the part they played in that aspect of your life has to come to an end so this individual and that situation no longer has a stronghold on you. Let's FLIP ThE ScRipT on the way we talk about the people who violated us! 3 - Not MY rapist/abuser 2 - Go Away 1 - BYE! From this point on, that monster you've been holding on to is free to go.  That is all for now my friends, Happy Healing!! Thoughts and/or concerns? 3. Just a Quick Word of Advice: Pay Attention to What They're Really Feeding You!

Just a Quick Word of Advice: Pay Attention to What They're Really Feeding You!

Send us Fan Mail You heard it here first! BS Sandwich Ingredients: - Two to three slices of truth - Toxic narratives - Gossip - Brain washing dogma - Manipulative language - Gas lighting verbiage - Other forms of negativity How most people make their BS sandwiches Step 1: the hook - first/top slice of bread Present a little bit of truth; this is how they pull you in. They'll start by saying something that may be common knowledge or a widely accepted theory in order to catch your attention. Here is where they hook you. Now that they have you hanging onto their every word, they'll start adding the "meat" to the sandwich. Step 2: adding the "meat" Suddenly they will start inserting the gossip, toxic narratives, brain washing dogma, manipulative language, gas lighting verbiage, and other forms of negative energy into what first appeared to be a wholesome, enlightening conversation. Step 3: the last/bottom slice of bread Here is where they may notice your face twitch, or the tone of your voice will soften in confusion. They'll pick up on both verbal and nonverbal body languages that tells them you may be questioning their speech, or the ideas they are setting forth. In fact, they may not notice anything at all, but due to the fact that they know you are otherwise an intelligent individual, they also know they have to recover from the BS they just served before you catch on.         So, they will revert back to positive language, start again with stating common knowledge or a widely accepted idea, or they may even start showering you with compliments, turning the now negative conversation on YOU. Please be aware that just like that first slice of bread, this last slice of bread is only being added as a distraction! FYI Please keep in mind that in some cases, a person might try to feed you a double-decker/big mac! This is when the BS they are serving is obviously so far-fetched, they have to add an extra slice of bread in between the "meat." They will do this so that the truth is buried so deeply in the bread that even when you notice it, it's virtually impossible to deny!      Please note that when you eat a BS sandwich, you yourself may officially become full of sh--. In this event, you may need to do a spiritual, mental and physical detox to restore your equilibrium.  This has been a public service announcement    Support the show **Unedited and Raw**

  4. Stop Playing the Victim, They Say!

    25/11/2024

Stop Playing the Victim, They Say!

Send us Fan Mail Three common statements people use when they want to escape accountability for their actions, words, influence, etc. Here are some ways you can flip the script on people when they attempt to gaslight you in this manner: ** Look at their forehead when responding ** - Don't instantly react. Instead, take a moment to look at them in the eyes and ask, "Are you ok?" - Remain calm and ask a follow up question such as, "Is there anything other non-valuable feedback you'd like to ask?" or say something like, "You must feel sorry for yourself very often." - Ask, "are you sure about that?" - Calmly ask, "Are you having a bad day?" -  Ask them a personal question to make them focus on themselves instead. For example, if someone tells you that you're always playing the victim, ask them "When you're expressing yourself about something, are YOU playing victim?" - Calmly say to them, " I guess truth is hard to process for some people." These are simply psychology tricks that will cause the person who is attempting to gaslight you, to question themselves instead. Even if their response to your reaction doesn't take place immediately; when they are alone, their lingering self-doubt will cause them to question their interaction and behavior with you for some time! Remember, self-expression is key to healing, personal growth and confidence. In standing your ground against master manipulators, you will develop a superpower that will help you navigate life and life's challenges in a healthy, respectful manner.
