    01: The 54-11

This is the Reebok Freestyle “origin story.” How the first athletic shoe made specifically for women was created in 1982. The sneaker was born out of aerobics, and taken from the gym to the streets, and even onto red carpets. We dive into how the shoe grew to be ubiquitous— and became the sneaker that got a lot of women into the sneaker game.

    02: Size Six Gang

Women have embraced sneaker culture, but it’s still largely a man’s world. Since the Freestyle’s release in 1982, sneaker offerings for female sneakerheads have been thin. Women are still an afterthought in the sneaker industry. There are few exclusive sneakers released in women’s sizes, and even fewer hype sneakers designed with women in mind. We hear from women who are breaking down boundaries, and busting into the boys’ club.

PERFECT!

As a black woman in the early stages of breaking into the sneaker and streetwear industry, this podcast was everything I needed and more! Big fan of fellow sneaker head Scottie Beam also...she did great!! I just wish there were more episodes. Maybe another segment is in the works????🙏🏾

Interesting listen

I’m a big Gimlet podcast listener and will try each podcast that comes out. I’m enjoying this one, and as someone who is old enough to have purchased and worn the Freestyle in the 80’s (and *gasp* do aerobics) I loved them! Thanks for the perspectives given a voice in this podcast and Scottie Beam - I look forward to hearing more 😊
