I coached several amazing young Ukrainian men in American Football while I was teaching in China 2016-21. Thus, my heart seeks to support Ukraine. However, I’m working on my master’s degree in military history I learned that the US provided 75% of assets to NATO prior to Trump’s first term. Now? Only nine NATO members don’t contribute the 2.5% required. That latter percentage might have been raised recently. That being said, this is Europe’s fight and responsibility. Although I’ll do my part by teaching for free in Ukraine next year. But there’s a dichotomy in this conflict for us (US); we should help, but in a much more limited degree and the burden in its whole should be on the shoulders of Europe. And this is coming from a son of a decorated combat aviator who flew 35 B-25 missions to help occupied Europe (until being shot down on his 35th sortie). Hence, my view is torn on the geopolitical issue and our involvement.
