S3E3 Part 4 Sarah Esslinger - Spotlight on the Research Ambassador Program: Shaping and Pacing a Research Journey

We’re thrilled to bring you a four-part series casting a spotlight on different sides of undergraduate research and resources that support undergrads’ journeys with research.  In the fourth and final minisode of this series, we talk with Sarah Esslinger. When we spoke with her in Spring 2024, Sarah was just about to graduate with a double major in music education and vocal performance at the University Park campus. She was also serving as a Research Ambassador with Penn State’s Undergraduate Research and Fellowships Mentoring (URFM) office.  It’s not often that we get to poke around under the hood of humanities research! In conversation with Sarah, we get a glimpse of the range of research opportunities in the humanities landscape and discuss navigating the freedom (or the overwhelm!) of the research path. This behind-the-scenes view of Sarah’s research journey helps us explore the different shapes research can take and how to chart your own course.  Want to share your own research story, submit a suggestion, or join the conversation? We’d love to hear from you. It’s that time of year when the air gets cooler, the moon feels fuller, and you always feel like you are being…ummm…watched? Let’s face it, we are all afraid of things that haunt the woods, but what does that fear tell you about human life and culture? Well, today’s guest, Jack Daly, is a Ph.D. candidate in American Studies at Penn State Harrisburg. In this conversation, Jack shares insights about his own research process as he explores folkore and the supernatural and, in so doing, explores how to study culture and belief. So light a candle, lock the door, and join us as we take a peek behind the veil.  Want to share your own research story, submit a suggestion, or join the conversation? We’d love to hear from you.
