    Getting regulators, policymakers and other stakeholders on your side

    Many countries are starting to experiment with drones for social and economic development. For those pioneering or working on these projects, getting those in charge of policy and regulation involved and on the same side is one of the most important - and hardest - parts of the job. In this episode, we’re joined by Susana Moreira from the NGO Village Reach. A scientist by training, Susana has been operating the largest, most complex drone project in Mozambique’s history. Here, she talks about how she worked with the policy makers and regulators in the country.     Integrating Multi-purpose drones for development in Malawi

    Over the last few years, there’s been a spike of interest in how unmanned aerial vehicles - UAVs or ‘drones’ - can solve some big problems in low resource settings.  In this episode, we’re joined by Daniel Ronen, Founder and CEO of the British startup UAVAid. The UAVAid drone can do many things - deliver health commodities, take images of flooding, and use live video to stop poachers. In this episode, he talks about how he’s integrated all those use cases in Malawi.     Testing a pay-as-you-go bikes model in Zambia

    Pay-as-you-go bicycle models have become increasingly common in large cities, particularly in the US and Europe. Could something similar help with the huge challenge of mobility in rural and urban Zambia? In this episode, we’re joined by Wyson Lungu, Founder and CEO of Onyx Connect. Over the last year, Wyson has provided bicycles along with a package of tech including smartphones, GPS, and solar lamps throughout Zambia. In this episode he talks about the challenges, how he overcame them, and plans for the future.
