Are You Buying Food Or Buying Marketing?

Send us Fan Mail That “healthy” box in your hand might be doing more marketing than nourishing. We’re breaking down one of the most practical nutrition skills you can learn: how to read a food label in a way that actually changes what ends up in your cart and how you feel after you eat it. Evan Patrick sits down with Centurion Health founder and CEO Troy Duell to turn confusion into a clear, repeatable system you can use on any packaged food.  We start where most people don’t: the ingredient list. Troy explains why ingredients are listed by weight, how the first few items tell you what the product is really made of, and how “made with whole grains” can still hide refined flour as the main ingredient. Then we move to the Nutrition Facts panel and the number that quietly changes everything: serving size. If you’ve ever crushed a snack bag and later realized you ate multiple servings, this part will hit home.  From there, we zoom out to the bigger question of calories versus quality. Calories matter, but we talk about nutrient density, why protein and fiber help with fullness, and why added sugars are worth watching closely compared to naturally occurring sugars in whole foods. We also question front-of-package claims like natural and organic, and we end with one simple habit that makes grocery shopping easier over time: slow down, compare options, and build label-reading instincts.  If this helps you, subscribe to Frontline Health, share the episode with a friend who loves “healthy” snacks, and leave a review so more people can find it. What’s the most misleading label claim you’ve seen lately? Music licensed through Soundstripe. Code: HZWCGW9YZ3UVMARY Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion. #151 - Neuropathy Explained

Send us Fan Mail Numb toes, burning feet, random tingling, or unexplained weakness can feel easy to brush off until it starts messing with sleep, workouts, and daily life. We want to pull neuropathy out of the “medical mystery” category and make it practical: what it is, why it happens, and what you can do next. We start with a clear definition of peripheral neuropathy as damage or dysfunction in the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. When those nerves misfire or stop carrying signals well, the result can be numbness, pins and needles, burning pain, or weakness. We also tackle a question we hear all the time: why does neuropathy often begin in the feet? The answer comes down to distance, because those nerve signals have the longest trip and the most chances to break down along the way. From there, we zoom out to causes. Diabetic neuropathy is common because chronically elevated blood sugar can damage nerves over time, but it’s not the whole story. We talk through other contributors like vitamin deficiencies, autoimmune issues, chemotherapy, alcohol, infections, injuries, and medications such as metformin, plus what it means when you can’t find a single obvious cause. We also dig into nutrition for nerve health, focusing on the nutrients most often discussed for nerve support: vitamin B12 in active forms (methylcobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, or hydroxocobalamin), smart dosing of vitamin B6, active folate (methylfolate or folinic acid), alpha lipoic acid (ALA), and CoQ10. We close with a simple action plan: don’t ignore symptoms, work with your healthcare provider, and tighten up the fundamentals like diet, exercise, sleep, and alcohol intake. Subscribe, share this with someone dealing with nerve pain, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway. Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion. #150 - Understanding Toxic Overload

Send us Fan Mail “Detox” is everywhere right now, but most of what we hear is either fear-driven or oversimplified and that leaves people confused, skeptical, or stuck chasing the next cleanse. We want a smarter, calmer approach, so we’re digging into what “toxic overload” actually means and what it doesn’t, using a simple framework: your body is built to process toxins, but constant high exposure can fill the bucket faster than your systems can keep up. I’m joined by Centurion Health founder and CEO Troy Duell to talk about the real-world sources that drive toxin exposure today: synthetic chemicals, microplastics, pesticides, highly processed foods, alcohol, medications, mold, and pollution. We also zoom out to the generational shift in how we cook, store, and buy food and why shelf life and convenience can come with tradeoffs that show up later as fatigue, brain fog, headaches, digestive issues, skin irritation, and trouble concentrating. We’re careful here: those symptoms aren’t a diagnosis, but they are signals worth exploring instead of ignoring. Then we get practical. We break down the body’s everyday detoxification systems (liver health, kidney function, gut elimination, lungs, and skin) and the sustainable habits that support them: whole foods nutrition, hydration, exercise, and sleep. Troy also explains several supplement-based detox support options discussed on the show, including liver support nutrients tied to methylation and ingredients like NAC, plus approaches aimed at kidney and urinary support, heavy metal binding, and gut support. If you want a grounded detoxification conversation with clear next steps, hit play. #149 - What Science Says About Intermittent Fasting, Sunscreen Risks, And Mosquito Magnets

Send us Fan Mail We trade the most interesting health headlines of the month and test our assumptions about fasting, sunlight, and mosquito prevention. We connect the dots between gut health, kidney function, inflammation, sunscreen ingredients, and the biology that makes some people mosquito magnets.  • Crohn’s disease research on 16:8 time-restricted eating and symptom relief  • fasting-mimicking diets and why meal timing may affect circadian rhythms and the gut microbiome  • autophagy, inflammation reduction, and the case for fasting beyond weight loss  • chronic kidney disease findings tied to low-salt fasting-mimicking approaches  • kidney communication with the brain, immune system, and metabolism  • sunscreen headlines, chemical absorption concerns, and the benefits of smart sun exposure  • FDA approval of bemotrizinol and questions about US regulatory delays  • what attracts mosquitoes, including CO2, heat, skin chemistry, beer, bananas, and clothing color  • DEET and permethrin tradeoffs plus practical non-chemical bite prevention  • patchouli oil as a potential repellent and who should avoid it  Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion. #148 - What If Anti-Aging Is Really Better Repair?

Send us Fan Mail A tiny string of amino acids bound to copper is making a huge splash in health, skincare, and regenerative medicine and it’s called GHK-Cu. We sit down to demystify what it is, why it shows up so often in anti-aging and recovery conversations, and what the science is actually suggesting (without pretending it’s a miracle fix). We start with the basics: GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper peptide made of glycine, histidine, and lysine, and we explain peptides as signaling molecules that help direct repair processes. From there, we dig into why GHK-Cu is so popular for skin health, including collagen synthesis and tissue remodeling. If you’ve ever wondered why skin loses that “lift” over time, we share a simple way to think about collagen support and what GHK-Cu may be doing underneath the surface. Then we widen the lens beyond cosmetics into wound healing, angiogenesis, inflammation regulation, oxidative stress, and longevity. We also touch on the buzzier topic of hair growth and why copper peptides are being watched for follicle support and scalp circulation. Finally, we get practical about peptide safety: how to think about regulation, why dosing consistency matters, and how to vet quality with a certificate of analysis from a reputable lab. If you found this helpful, subscribe to the Frontline Health Podcast, share it with a friend who’s peptide-curious, and leave a review with your biggest question about GHK-Cu. #147 - Lyme Disease And Alpha Gal Explained with Daniel Justice

Send us Fan Mail A single tick bite can change your health for years, and the hardest part is often getting someone to take your symptoms seriously. We sit down with Daniel Justice, a certified holistic health coach who has lived through 13 years of Lyme disease, to unpack why Lyme is so often missed, why the standard testing pathway can fail real people, and what you can do when the answers feel stuck. If you’ve ever been told “your labs are normal” while your body says otherwise, this conversation is for you.  We compare Lyme disease with alpha-gal syndrome and make the differences clear: alpha-gal is typically an immune-driven food reaction, while Lyme is a complex bacterial infection that can involve multiple co-infections like Babesia and Bartonella. We also dig into chronic Lyme vs post-Lyme, the symptom burden that can look like autoimmune disease, and the practical reality of elimination diets when alpha-gal and Lyme collide. Along the way, we break down ELISA screening, Western Blot banding, and why clinical diagnosis still matters in tick-borne illness.  From there we shift into support and action steps: how to avoid ticks, what to do if you’re bitten, why saving the tick can help, and how early treatment timing can change outcomes. Daniel also shares an integrative lens on pacing, detox support, gut health, biofilms, and supplements that commonly come up in Lyme recovery, plus his experience with bee venom therapy and the safety precautions it requires.  If this helped you, subscribe to the Frontline Health Podcast, share this episode with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find trustworthy, practical guidance. #146 - AI And Your Health

Send us Fan Mail We weigh the promise of AI-driven medicine against the risks of handing our bodies and relationships over to algorithms. We land on a simple standard: AI can boost accuracy and efficiency, but human oversight, empathy, and real community keep health care from becoming hollow.  • AI in modern medicine through imaging, radiology, cancer detection, drug discovery, and predictive diagnostics  • Why data quality matters and how incomplete context leads to bad recommendations  • The case for AI plus clinician partnership rather than AI alone  • What happens when AI and a physician disagree and why rapport still matters  • Wearables, HRV, recovery signals, and practical behavior change  • When biohacking becomes anxiety and health tracking becomes an idol  • Social media algorithms, attention manipulation, and rising relational risks  • AI romantic companions, pornography, and the “yes-man” problem in intimacy  • A narrow use case for dementia companionship that can support caregivers  Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion.
