Full Scope, Episode Zero: What Are We Doing Here?

Send us Fan Mail A little bit intro, a little bit chaos. What happens when you let your ten-year-old interview you about your new podcast? A few tangents... and a surprisingly good place to begin. Welcome to Full Scope: exploring what it means to be a family doctor, and what it takes to make one. This podcast is for anyone curious about the people behind the medicine - especially family medicine residents, medical students, and practicing family physicians. Rooted in the Sutter Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency, it brings together residents, faculty, alumni, and friends for conversations about the work we do and the people we become along the way. We’ll explore the extraordinary breadth of family medicine: where we practice, whom we care for, and the practical realities of learning to do it all. We’ll also get into the deeply human parts: the emotional and spiritual dimensions of this work, what it asks of us, and what it gives us back. Above all, Full Scope is about connection. Whether you’re just stepping into the “River of Family Medicine” or have been navigating its currents for decades, there’s something powerful about finding one another, sharing what we’ve learned, and remembering why we chose this work. About your host: I’m Allison Bacon, a family physician, a 2011 graduate of Sutter Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency, and now core faculty and Director of Leadership and Professional Development there. I’m also a single mom of four amazing kids, who loves to travel, go outside as much as possible, and make art, poetry and music. Pull up a chair. We have a lot to talk about.
