Indigenomics and the Digital Future: A Conversation with Carol Anne Hilton

In this episode of The Future Money Podcast presented by The Interledger Foundation, host Lawil Karama interviews Carol Ann Hilton, CEO of the Indigenomics Institute and a leader in Indigenous economics. We discuss her book “Indigenomics: Taking a Seat at the Economic Table” and its emphasis on incorporating Indigenous perspectives into global economic frameworks. Hilton explores economic justice, sustainable business practices, and the significance of self-governance. The conversation showcases successful Indigenous business models and examines how digital financial inclusion impacts Indigenous communities. While the Indigenous economy is surging, full Indigenous economic participation remains limited. Hilton advocates for combining traditional knowledge with modern technologies such as AI and blockchain to advance economic and technological development. In this conversation, we are led towards the publication of her second book, “The Rise of Indigenous Economic Power.” Where racist practices such as Canada’s Indian Act thwarted Indigenous economic progress, the book deconstructs these historic and systemic barriers and presents an ethical response. To learn more about Carol Ann Hilton, please visit her website. Her books include “Indigenomics: Taking a Seat at the Economic Table” and her upcoming work “The Rise of Indigenous Economic Power”, which is now available for pre-order and ships after April 12th, 2025.
