Welcome to the Gabba Gabba Huh? Podcast, featuring the best of The Carolinas' punk, alternative, hard rock, and heavy metal from the past 40 years. While the main podcast (Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks) will be more converstional and interview style, while "Gabba Gabba Huh? Radio" will focus on the music, with some background information on the songs and bands featured. Most songs will be digitized from original vinyl, cassette, or CD sources, thus the quality will vary, but will be rather true to the original form. Hosted by Mike Phillips from Van Huskins

Talks! Episode 69 - Ahvid Harris

Talks! Episode 69 - Ahvid Harris

Gabba Gabba Huh? is back?! Yes! At least this week! After this, it may (or may not) be next year before I get the ball really rolling again. Hear a little bit about that up front, but I was having microphone issues (causing some audio issues throughout), so some of what I had to say never made it, but you'll get the idea! This week's guest is Ahvid Harris, a local self-described impressionist, with poetry being the main subject. A little bit of a departure, but still local, still the arts, and still DIY. What you'll get here is two recent friends getting a chance to know each other a little bit more and talk about how our crafts are actually quite similar. Stick around through the sometimes crummy audio  to hear some wonderfully recited poetry (luckily my audio issues not present during these segments), and get to know a little bit about the local poetry scene!

Talks! Episode 68 - The Bowman Brothers Return!

This week I got my friends Jon and Jordan Bowman to come over and talk about what Warboys US are up to, and what they're up to in general. We kind of go all over the place as this one was just sort of thrown together, and since their stories have already been told, we had plenty of wiggle room for what we could talk about! Expect some general musician talk, peppered with stories about turning teacher's yards into golf courses, making Dick Tracy videos at Disney World, and all kinds of other stuff!

Talks! Episode 67 - World Sauntering Day

This week I had my friends James Baker and Josh Featherstone come over to GGH studios to talk about  their band, World Sauntering Day! In addition to talking about their musical careers (though we kinda skipped over Josh's nu metal band when the recorder stopped on us for a minute and we never really picked it back up properly), we also talk about their recording process, their upcoming show at Cavendish Brewery in Gastonia, NC (July 9, 7p), whether or not to practice on your own, Def Leppard, and they keep finding ways to bring it back around to my current and previous projects so you get to learn more about me as well... all this and so much more as this one is filled with tangents!

Talks! Episode 66 - Eddie Ford (Self-Made Monsters)

This week I rode out to (Whoa-oh-whoa-oh!) China Grove to visit with Eddie Ford of the band, Self-Made Monsters. In addition to talking about their upcoming record, we also talked about his time playing in bands such as Maniac Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, and Ubangi Stomp, working at Repo Cheapo, having a song covered by local legends, getting wasted and then getting sober, and so much more!

OUTSTANDING podcast - great host, great music, great topics

The Charlotte region has an amazing wealth of fantastic music. Mike Phillips is a perfect host for bringing awareness to both what's currently coming out of the area as well as the great history here. His interviewing style is terrific, as good as anyone on even the most famous podcasts, and the production is top-notch. I recommend this podcast to anyone into local culture, indie music, punk, metal, or who wants to hear a well-made show with fascinating guests with awesome perspectives. Mike does both conversational shows (Gabba Gabba Huh Talks) and full music shows (Gabba Gabba Radio).
