    Bear McCreary Talks Singularity: Ekleipsis

If you know the name Bear McCreary, it's probably from the goosebumps he's given you without you even knowing it was him. You may know his work from Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, God of War, and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He's one of the most prolific composers working today, and on July 31st, he's releasing Singularity: Ekleipsis, his second metal album. He sat down with us to talk about creating something that is his own art. We dug into how neither of us comes from a metal background and what that means for the music he is creating. He drops some great recommendations of things to listen to in order to find your way into the genre. The album itself is brilliant from top to bottom. Bear McCreary discusses how this was, in his opinion, more finely tuned than the first, but both albums have been on constant repeat for me lately. About Bear McCreary and Singularity: Ekleipsis Award-winning composer and recording artist Bear McCreary began his career as a protégé of legendary film composer Elmer Bernstein, before bursting onto the scene scoring the revered series Battlestar Galactica in 2004. Since then, McCreary has won three Emmy Awards, including two for Disney's Percy Jackson and the Olympians and one for his theme for Da Vinci's Demons, a musical palindrome, and has won twelve International Film Music Critics Association Awards, including the award for Score of the Year in 2024, his second. Named the 23rd Most Definitive Bear in Popular Culture (The Ringer), he's also been the subject of a clue on Jeopardy! Project highlights include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Amazon); Foundation (Apple TV); the beloved series Outlander (STARZ); Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures); The Walking Dead (AMC); and Netflix's Academy Award–nominated documentary Crip Camp (produced by Barack and Michelle Obama). McCreary's celebrated scores for Sony PlayStation's blockbusters God of War and God of War Ragnarök have earned him two BAFTA Awards and two Grammy nominations. In 2024, McCreary released The Singularity, a hard-rock concept album featuring legendary rock talent including Slash, Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Rufus Wainwright, and more.  McCreary has collaborated with artists from across the musical spectrum, including Hozier, Fiona Apple, Shirley Manson (Garbage), Annie Lennox, and the late Sinéad O'Connor. In 2014, Maestro Gustavo Dudamel conducted a suite of McCreary's music with the L.A. Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl.

Chuck Tingle Talks Influencers, Busta Rhymes, and Art

Chuck Tingle is one of the most inspiring people I have ever had the chance to talk to. Our first interview changed how I approached interviews entirely. He taught me to come at things from my place with my heart on my sleeve. I owe so much to Chuck Tingle's influence on me, so getting the chance to chat again was a blessing. This time around, we are diving into his new book, Beautiful Bodies. We dive deep into the role of influencers and how what they do is art, through a Warhol lens. We also took some time to talk about Busta Rhymes' brilliance. The interview spans the board, offering a deep conversation about art, humanity, horror, and all the things that make life worth living. LOVE IS REAL! About Beautiful Bodies Poppy Stringer was born to be a star. It could be the last job she'll ever need—if everything goes to plan. But the night's delivery quickly veers off course when Eddie wakes up. Now Poppy must fight for her life if she hopes to survive this blood-soaked joyride of carnage and extravagant entertainment. Michael Angarano Chats Margo's Got Money Troubles

On this episode, we chat with Margo's Got Money Troubles star Michael Angarano! Michael plays the show's "villain" Mark, who's Margo's baby daddy. We talked in depth with Michael about the character, how he approaches him, and how he isn't actually a villain. We spoke about Mark's empathetic approach to the character and his growth through the first season of the show. We also tapped into Mark's relationship with his mother in the series. Angrano also spoke about how his work as a director has sharpened his instincts as an actor. He's learned to use both and says he still loves that the emotional disconnect of performance is something no amount of technical knowledge can fully replace. Michael brings a strong performance in a show that I can promise you is worth your time. "Margo's Got Money Troubles" is a bold, heartwarming, and comedic family drama following recent college dropout and aspiring writer, Margo (Fanning), the daughter of an ex-Hooters waitress (Pfeiffer) and ex-pro wrestler (Offerman), as she's forced to make her way with a new baby, a mounting pile of bills, and a dwindling amount of ways to pay them. The series also stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award-winner Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty and Lindsey Normington.  Michael Anthony Angarano is an American actor with a career spanning film and television since the mid-1990s. He's known for roles like Young William in Almost Famous and Will Stronghold in Sky High. He also played Nick Pearson in NBC's This Is Us, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor. Angarano's other credits include Music of the Heart, Cover Me, I'm Dying Up Here, Gentlemen Broncos, and Oppenheimer (2023).

A Drink with The Problem Drinker Kyle Kouri

I have never reviewed or even written about a memoir before. For me, the question has always been how I can critique a view of someone's life and history. It's not a genre I have even grazed near because I just didn't know how to handle it. That was until The Problem Drinker, which offered me a unique approach. I had access to the subject and pitched that we have a drink to have a real conversation instead of a typical interview. Describing The Problem Drinker isn't an easy task because it feels like a snapshot of who a human being is. Kyle is brutally honest about himself, his world, and everything in it. There is a level of authenticity to how he writes this debut. Kyle is a problem drinker, not someone who is struggling with drinking. In the book, it's treated like a pastime or just a natural part of his life. But all around it is turmoil, heartache, and life itself. Between large life events, Kyle opens up his own rib cage to let the reader understand him a bit better. I have been lucky enough to befriend Kyle after being introduced to him by his girlfriend, CJ Leede, who is a character in the book. I have interviewed and spoken to CJ many times, so going from her book Headlights straight into this was a unique experience. You can feel Kyle, as a character in her book, in the most loving homage to her partner. But in The Problem Drinker, you get a real look at what love is. How love is formed in ordinary and everyday life, while never feeling mundane. The way Kyle writes about the people he loves is why this book is going to stick with me for some time. This conversation ranges from music to food to drinking stories, and everything in between that makes us human. It is an open and honest conversation that works as a companion piece to the incredible book. Make sure you check out the short film as well! About The Problem Drinker Kyle Kouri's debut non-fiction collection is full of 'whiskey courage' staring at the abyss of family, writing rejection, relationships, and his own drinking. From hijinks at AWP to hustling in the movie business, Kouri bridges the gap in drama between indie and horror. At turns hilarious and heartbreaking, The Problem Drinker is the story of an artist living with another artist, yearning to move the needle in his career, amidst a sea of personal tragedies and comedies. If F. Scott Fitzgerald had one foot in the 2020s horror scene, that's the spirit of Kouri's caustic and big-hearted, lush and refreshingly candid debut. About Kyle Kouri Kyle Kouri is an award-winning actor, writer, filmmaker, and producer. He received his MFA in Fiction from Columbia University, where he served as the online arts editor for the Columbia Journal. He is the co-founder of Slashtag Cinema, a film production company.

    Kate O'Flynn Talks Widow's Bay

Today, we are joined by Kate O'Flynn from the Apple TV show Widow's Bay. We got the chance to discuss her superstitions, which include some rather interesting bird-related ideas. We also spoke about her recent turn taking the lead in Ep. 4 of Widow's Bay, "Beach Reads", which sees O'Flynn's character, Patricia, assistant to Matthew Rhys' Mayor Tom, organising a town party while dealing with some old school "friends". It's safe to say that, thanks to an ominous party-planning book, things take a turn for the supernatural. We also discuss if she walked away with any party tips from this experience.. Thanks to Kate for sitting down with us for this wonderful chat about the show, now streaming on Apple TV. About "Widow's Bay" In "Widow's Bay," something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There's no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don't. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again. Blending genuine horror with character-driven comedy, "Widow's Bay" features an ensemble cast led by Rhys, Kate O'Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey. The supporting cast includes K Callan and Emmy Award winner Jeff Hiller. Hailing from Apple Studios, "Widow's Bay" is created, showrun and executive produced by Dippold. Murai executive produces through his banner Chum Films alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin and Rhys. Murai directs five episodes this season, in addition to directors Ti West, Sam Donovan and Andrew DeYoung.
