The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Deviled Eggs & Fiery Jack-O'-Lanterns

Welcome back to Geek Eats, where fandom and food collide! In this autumn-infused second episode, Mr. Daps and DC Sarah dive into the cozy yet spine-chilling world of Washington Irving’s classic tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Together, they share their annual viewing traditions and compare the various Sleepy Hollow adaptations. This ranges from the silent era (1928) and 1980s TV classics featuring Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr., to Tim Burton’s iconic 1999 film and Disney’s stop-motion Descendants Halloween short. At the center of the discussion is the gold standard of adaptations: Disney’s 1949 classic The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. The hosts revisit the film’s atmospheric, autumnal animation, Bing Crosby’s timeless narration, and the infamous, ambiguous fate of Ichabod Crane. Before heading into the kitchen, Sarah and Mr. Daps share what fandoms and food they’ve been enjoying lately. From Halloween quests in Disney Dreamlight Valley and the seasonal wrap-up of Ted Lasso, to bowling-alley sushi in Downtown Disney, the conversation is random and a lot of fun. Finally, it’s time to bring the fandom into the kitchen with two fiery, fall-inspired recipes: DC Sarah’s Dish: Ichabod’s Devilish Deviled Eggs - A spicy, smoky spin on a classic deviled egg inspired by Ichabod’s legendary feast table scene. Featuring a 2:1 mustard-to-mayo ratio, smoked paprika, and a punch of cayenne pepper. Mr. Daps’ Dish: The Fiery Jack-O'-Lantern - A festive homage to the flaming pumpkin thrown by the Headless Horseman. Small pie pumpkins are carved, baked, and stuffed with a savory, spicy blend of ground turkey, wild rice, onions, spinach, mushrooms, corn, red pepper flakes, and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. The episode also covers single-use kitchen gadget discussion, food photography horror stories, and a teaser for the next episode’s debate over The Nightmare Before Christmas!
